Amazon.com Product Description

Guilty Gear X: Advance Edition is an anime-style fighting game with engrossing story-driven action. With richly drawn characters, fluid animation, and speedy gameplay, Guilty Gear X: AE draws players into the futuristic world of the Gears. Set in the 22nd century, when magic has upset the balance of power, the game lets players take on the role of more than 14 characters practicing a range of martial arts styles. The numerous combat and combo attacks include an "instant kill" ability unique to each player. The game offers multiple play modes, including tag, versus, and even three-on-three via a Game Link cable.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Guilty Gear Goodness, June 22, 2002
By
TeknoEchidna (Oklahoma City, OK USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guilty Gear X Advanced Edition (Video Game)
The series may not have seen as much acclaim in the States as it did in Japan, but the Guilty Gear series of games has always delivered a rich and fun playing experience. The 2nd of 3 installments is now available on Gameboy Advance, adding a whole new level of ways to enjoy the game. For longtime fans of the series, the GBA version offers all the features of GGX Plus, which never came to the states. These features include 2 on 2, 3 on 3, and the Extra versions of every character which can be unlocked in Survival mode. In terms of the translation to handheld, the characters are all recognizable, translating well to handheld, and they all still feature their signature weapons. The music translated well, keeping with the same "Hard Rock" attitude as best as they could with the GBA's soundchip, although I highly recommend listening to the original soundtrack (It's one of my all-time favorites). The game follows simple 4 button gameplay (Punch, Kick, Slash, Heavy Slash) with outrageous combos and the fastest gameplay I've ever seen in a fighter (one of the series trademark features). When it comes to backgrounds, they could have done a bit more with them, but they still come out looking OK, but they really could have put some animation in them (they did in Street Fighter 2 Turbo). Any flaws this game has are very minor, and it should be passed up by any fans of fighting games or anime/manga.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but..., May 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Guilty Gear X Advanced Edition (Video Game)
I bought this a couple months ago when I was in Japan, so here's my 50 cents. Graphically, it's pretty well done, as the characters all animate very well, though they are kinda small. However, the graphics (especially the backgrounds) are very bland and washed out, especially if you've seen the arcade/PS2 versions for comparison. The sound? Think GBC, though I usually just turn it down so it doesn't get on my nerves too much. The controls are spot on, with two different modes (3 button and 4 button). I found all of the specials and combos easy to execute. My main gripe, and something I could see turning off a lot of people, is that the AI is virtually nonexistent. For example, I would set the difficulty to very hard, and yet I could still just mash buttons and easily make it all the way through arcade mode, often without losing a round. Survival mode does get a little more challenging, but generally by the time it does become challenging, I've already become bored to death. But since I still found it fun to pull off some of the more insane moves and instant kills (especially Faust's), not all is lost. In the end GGX AE isn't nearly as good as SSF2X, but I would say that it is on par with Tekken Advance.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fighting game for the RPG fan!!, January 17, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Guilty Gear X Advanced Edition (Video Game)
As a RPG fan I love playing Final Fantasy,Fire Emblem, ect...Im not really skilled at fighting games. But this game is very simple and fun to play! There are no 85 button combos to pull off. There are only a few button combos and the left and right triggers. Ths music is really cool and the anime style fighters are awesome!! This is the best fighting game of any system, xbox or ps2 have no fighting games this good. for the price go ahead and get it. You'll love it.
