2.0 out of 5 stars just the same stuff
I guess I could just copy the review I wrote for Desires Unleashed, praises and criticisms being largely the same for this second episode.
I do not wish to be accused of lazyness, though, so I shall deliver a brand new comment, costly as it may be: costly because Ms Simmons appears to have a large number of supportive fans and many of them thought fit to censor my...

5.0 out of 5 stars Exhilerating!, April 24, 2006

This review is from: The Guilty Innocent: Knights of the Darkness Book Two (Knights of the Darkness Chronicles) (Paperback)
I greatly enjoyed this book, I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the first book, even though it had errors, the story was just what I'd been looking for in a novel, so I was more than pleased. I didn't really notice any errors in this installement. I'm sure many who've read the first book is wondering about that. This book is a lot better as far as the editing. The writing was fresh and well paced. I had no idea what to expect in this second novel. I'm a huge fan of the earlier Laurell K. Hamilton books and was looking for a new author to keep me entertained in this genre, I'd recommend D.N. Simmons to anyone in the same boat.

What I liked most about this story is that even though it was told from Natasha's point of view, the story focused on so many other characters. In this book you get to learn a lot of John, the sexy manager at Desires Unleashed, Xavier, and Elise. New characters are introduced and they are filled to the brim with personality! Devin has got to be one of my all time favorite characters. I think the real heros of this book are Xavier and Sergio. Natasha's inner monologues are funny and insightful, it's through her curiosity that you learn more about the others.

I think this is a credit to D.N. Simmons's writing style. It's not at much sex in this book as in Desires Unleashed, but the sex scenes that you do have are extremely steamy and shocking. This book focused more on action and that was right up my alley.

It had just the right amount of humor, gore, eroticism and action to make a winning combination.

I am definitely looking forward to the third installment and this is really a keeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars I was expecting nothing less than perfect, April 30, 2006

This review is from: The Guilty Innocent: Knights of the Darkness Book Two (Knights of the Darkness Chronicles) (Paperback)
D.N. Simmons delivers yet again, another well thought-out plot with the perfect mixture of horror, action, suspense, sex and romance. This book follows up with several characters from Desires Unleashed. Natasha's best friend is missing and Darian, who is one of the hottest, toughest and sexiest vampire master to EVER grace this genre is arrested for murder because some pretty bad guys wanted him out of the way so that they could do their dirt. Natasha along with Xavier, Elise , Sergio, John and Devin go on a mission to clear Darian of murder charges before 7 days are up.

I'm an extremely picky reader, I don't like half-stepping. I don't like when sex replaces plot in a novel. I don't like half-baked characters that are boring as all hell to read or "Mary Sues." and I don't like unrealistic dialogue or plot scenarios. I see far too many books that have taken this road and it is extremely refreshing to come across an Author like D.N. Simmons who when you read her novels, you see the amount of effort she put into bringing the story and characters to life and at the same time is able to suck you into her world where you don't want to leave. Anne Rice had this same effect on me too.

Someone else mentioned this, and I'm going to concur. The Guilty Innocent; Knights of the Darkness Chronicles book two was a credit to D.N.'s writing style. I've read many books, mainly by LKH where the story is told through the eyes on one person and everything seems to react only to that one person or they exist only for that one person to be larger than life.

That is not the case with Natasha. D.N. uses Natasha's "eyes" to introduce the reader to the other characters, to see deeper into who they are and why they do what they do. I have a better understanding of the characters now. So much was revealed in this book and you learn so much more about both vampires and shapeshifters.

As always, D.N. delivers some of the hottest and erotic bite and sex scenes ever with great detail. This book was extremely hard to put down and the only reason I did was because I didn't want it to end and that was when I had one more chapter to go.

D.N. is an author I would highly suggest checking out, especially if you're looking for something out of the ordinary. I have no doubt in my mind that The Royal Flush isn't going to be anything less than spectacular!

5.0 out of 5 stars Anxiously awaiting the Royal Flush!, April 27, 2006
This review is from: The Guilty Innocent: Knights of the Darkness Book Two (Knights of the Darkness Chronicles) (Paperback)
I LOVED this book! The ending was just spatacular real edge of your seat action. I also love the conversations in this novel. And I can't wait to see what's next with Darian and Xavier, who are both bi and extremely manly! Lots of fun, D.N. is definitely one of my top fav. authors right up there with Charlaine Harris and Kelley Armstrong.

Even better than the first one was. But, the thing that drove me crazy was losing one of my favourite outspoken and exciting characters.
I like how moral Natasha is and how she doesn't like drinking and looks out for all of her friends, or the relationships of all the supernaturals and also that good Mission Impossible like scene in the middle of the book. It was very well done. It's tricky to write a scene like that.
Furio also has a few details wrong. The vampires in the book clearly state that they are bi, they are vampires so of course they wouldn't care about stuff like that, and some of his details are wrong in other places as well.

Great book! Better editing than the first book, so that was good. Awesome storyline! Sergio, who is my favorite character kicked butt in this book! D.N.'s writing style is improving with each book it seems and I'm really enjoying this series.

I'd totally recommend reading the KOTDC.

5.0 out of 5 stars LKH fans both present and former, check out D.N., April 23, 2006
This review is from: The Guilty Innocent: Knights of the Darkness Book Two (Knights of the Darkness Chronicles) (Paperback)
If you're a fan of LKH or was, I think you'd like the world D.N. Simmons created. Vampires, shapeshifters and humans all living together but with a very different twist, many different twist actually.

The Guilty Innocent was a great book! Natasha is loveable, charming and hilarious, and it really was a joy to read this book from her perspective. ALL of the characters in the story get plenty of play. Sergio fans are in for a treat as well as Xavier fans. Yes, all of the men are hot, there's nothing wrong with that, it's a fantasy. Their personalities are so realistic and they are so manly and sexy. Non-stop action, great plot...but don't take my word for it, this series is really worth reading. It may not be what some ppl are looking for, but that doesn't mean it isn't an amazing book. I can't wait for the third book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wave of the Future!, September 13, 2005
This review is from: The Guilty Innocent: Knights of the Darkness Book Two (Knights of the Darkness Chronicles) (Paperback)
D.N. Simmons is truly a breakthrough artist in this genre of books. I have never been this amazed by a book like I am about this one. Her style of writing is truly original and she will take your breath away with the characters she created. The characters are so real and they are so easy to connect with. The Guilty Innocent is the best sequel to a novel that I have ever read! It is a non stop thrill that I haven't been able to stop smiling about. It is a rollercoaster that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning to the very end. Don't try to predict what you think is going to happen next because D.N. Simmons will always catch you by surprise and mesemerize you at the same time. I am looking forward to reading the third book of this great chronicles. Look out Anne Rice, move over Stephen King, D.N. Simmons is here to stay! I am excited for the world to discover this work of art that I would like to call crazy powerful! The Knights of the Darkness Chronicles is truly the wave of the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner for D N Simmons, September 13, 2005
This review is from: The Guilty Innocent: Knights of the Darkness Book Two (Knights of the Darkness Chronicles) (Paperback)
D N Simmons once again takes us on a fabulous journey into the world of the supernatural, the second book in the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles. In the first book, Desires Unleashed, we are introduced to vampires, shape shifting wolves and leopards, the special police task force which deals with supernaturals, and Natasha, a woman who learns of her own unique `dreaming' abilities. The characters are well written and the story is just plain excellent.

This second book is told from Natasha's perspective and is done so well that at times you feel the character is talking directly to you. We learn, through Natasha's natural curiosity, a great deal more about both vampires and shape shifters as they all come together to try to clear Darian, the head vamp in Chicago of murder charges, and they only have 7 days to do it.

A puny fragile human among strong, tough supernaturals, we really get to see just what Natasha is made of in this book. Her compassion, feistiness and loyalty, as well as her curiosity, soon win the grudging respect of many who look down on mere humans.

This story contains lots of action, emotion and erotica as well as humor.

As with many of the releases from small publishing companies, the first book was loaded with editing errors. I'm happy to say that this second book, while not perfect, is a great deal cleaner in that regard.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best vampire book ever!!!!, September 24, 2005
This review is from: The Guilty Innocent: Knights of the Darkness Book Two (Knights of the Darkness Chronicles) (Paperback)
I can't believe just how good this novel was! I don't think that I am at all alone when I say that this book was simply AMAZING!!! What a plot! It was so gripping, I could not put this book down, this book was a page turner! I'm so exciting about the third book, I can hardly wait!

The first book, Desires Unleashed was so funny and sexy and exciting and D.N. Simmons doesn't let you down with the Guilty Innocent. Darian, the hottest vampire master in the world is framed for murder and is arrested. Now, Natasha, his lover Xavier and a few other unlikely companions must find out who is really responsible before the seven days are up. After seven days, all hell is going to break lose!

Never had I read a book that was so fully packed. This book was hilarious, super exciting, very erotic and a complete action blast.

I can't recommend this book enough, it's a must own, must read!
