5.0 out of 5 stars Guilty Passion by Jacqueline Baird, September 18, 2008
Heartless seduction

Back Cover:Rebecca's shame and humiliation had been complete. Benedict Maxwell had never intended to marry her. He'd wanted revenge for his brother, and she, fool in love, had given him all the rope he'd need to hang her. It hadn't mattered that Benedict hadn't been aware of all the facts surrounding his brother's untimely death.

But that had been five years ago and now, when they meet again, Rebecca's a different woman. Now she's a mother with a young son to protect!
My Take- Okay, this is Jacqueline Baird's second novel for Harlequin Presents. This book was written in the early 90's. Anyway, the Heroine, Rebecca meets the hero Benedict at a lecture. He was the guest speaker. From the moment she laid eyes on him, she was quite taken by his exceptional good looks and phenomenal body. She was dying to meet him and when they were introduced, the first time, Benedict kinda blew her off. They were introduced a second time that evening, and then it all clicked for Benedict. So he laid on the charm, so he could get close to her in order to make her pay for a past sin which of course she did not commit. I really really liked this book. I loved that JB gave the heroine a caree,r and many of the heroines in her later books have careers. The scenes were pretty steaming for the period. I must say that Baird is good at writing those types *wink scenes wink*.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guilty Passion by Jacqueline Baird (Mills & Boon Hardcover), November 17, 2006

This review is from: Guilty Passion (Romance Series) (Hardcover)
The hero of this story is definitely a dominating alpha male ... he makes summary judgements, won't listen to reason, etc ... all of the usual unreasonable behavior with predictable life-disrupting results. Not a book for those who like their men sensitive, kind, and understanding! The sex scenes are remarkably steamy for a book written in 1992 (they even have sex in the kitchen up against the refrigerator door) and even though the hero is a bit of pain and probably didn't deserve the heroine's forgiveness, and ultimately her love, the author won me over the by end of the story, so I give it four stars.

Description from the book back cover:

'Deep down I know that Benedict is the one for me. If I get hurt, so be it.' Brave words - or simply foolish? Rebecca Blacket-Green was inclined to think the latter after Benedict Maxwell's betrayal. He had used her and then thrown her away, and all because he mistakenly blamed her for something which had happened years ago. But Rebecca knew that, sooner or later, she would meet Benedict again - and the passion would flare between them stronger than ever. Only, this time, the stakes were far higher ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch Harlequin, October 1, 2009
This book has one of the annoying Harlequin hallmarks - THE BIG MISUNDERSTANDIG. Normally, this would be a massive turn off and completely ruin the story.

Not this book. This writer took a pretty boring set-up and made it a unique and emotional experience.

I could not believe how mean the hero Benedict was to the heroine Rebecca. Half way through the book, i found myself thinking "The writer has gone too far. The hero and their relationship can't come back from this".

By the end of the book, I was rooting for the hero and was so glad when he and the heroine finally found happines. Now that is an example of a writer in control of her craft.

This book earned a spot on my keeper shelf.
