Total let down,
By Yardy (Windsor CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guilty Pleasure (Bound Hearts, Book 11) (Paperback)
I was really disappointed by this book, a book that I had long waited for. Khalid was a mysterious, but much more refined lover as third in his prior book. Then we have Marty, a innocent by the fact that she had only just had her first few sexual encounters, but was expected to participate and enjoy anal sex without even the aid of lubricant? Puhleeze!! The rough talk during the sex was crude and unnecessary, a little dirty talk can be hot, but not in this book, ICK. One minute waxed, the next curls? Ripped off panty, putting back on said ripped panty? Then to add insult to injury, a rushed ending that left more questions than answers. I know it is a set up for another book in the series, but if it is about Shayne, I will pass. Unless the book is about Abram, where they can at least wrap up the loose end from GP, I believe I am done with this series.

I WAS a Lora Leigh fan... I am so diappointed with this book! I have waited for Khalid's story FOREVER!!! I really looked forward to it. I felt like I was reading a first draft of this book! Where was the editor? There were so many grammatical and spelling mistakes! Not to mention NUMEROUS storyline mistakes! The love scenes are dull and unimaginative! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I wish I could get my money back and my time!

I love Lora Leigh and always enjoy her books. I am glad I got this one from the library, just couldn't get into it. I kept feeling like I had read it before, even looked it up again to make sure it really was a new release. She told so much of Kahlids story in an earlier book that it just seemed to be a thin excuse to squeeze another book out of a used up story. Even if I had not read the earlier book it just did not flow at all. I rarely write reviews, I have LOVE a book or hate it. The only thing that gave this book two stars were the few sex scenes that I skipped through to read!! Even those were rather lacking. I look forward to smutty books, darn it!! What a let down. I know have Nauti Deceptions on my to read shelf, also from Library and I am hoping it is not as bad!

Like other reviewers, I have enjoye Khalid's character in the prevous books, but this book just left me a little lacking. For me the book just seemed to end, could have used a little more.....something. I mean the issue of their mutual love for one another and the dangerous threat threatening them was all resolved in about five pages. I assume the introdution of Shayne was Leigh's way of setting him up for the next book, but he just didn't seem to fit. *spoiler*...how the hell do that many bad guys get into the house when they are all supposed to be on alert???? Just seemed like Leigh was in a big hurry to finish the book. It wasn't as smooth as some of her previous books, little choppy and not always consistant. One minute, Khalid is ripping Marty's panties off and in the next page she putting same said panties back on....is is possible to put the same ripped panties back on??? And this is just a pet peeve of mine, but who really has anal sex for the first time without some damn lube....come on Leigh at least make it a little bit believeable. This book won't be a keeper for me and I am glad I didn't pay full price. Maybe it is time for a fresh series, they are getting pretty repetitive. Her last several books have been a disappointment.

Did Lora Leigh REALLY Write This?,
By Emptrix (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guilty Pleasure (Bound Hearts, Book 11) (Paperback)
I enjoyed the Bound Hearts, series . . . until now! Lora Leigh has some downs in her writing, and she is something of a prolific writer, so one cannot expect every book to be five or four stars, or even three stars but this! I'd give this a minus five stars if possible. I hate being forced to even give it one star. I was anxiously awaiting Kahlid's story, sure it would be my favorite. So not! I wrote a letter to Lora Leigh expressing my great frustration with the inconsistent elements in the story, the lack of her usual spark, and the inexcusable publication of a rough draft that never made it through spell check or grammar check! It was painful to read this book. I offered to edit for her because she so obviously needs someone to help. I would die of embarrassment to have my name appear as the author of such an abortive story, especially when one's readers are expecting it to be at least as good as it's 10 predecessor stories. There is basically nothing good about this book. I have a difficult time believing that Lora Leigh actually wrote this. One thing is definitely certain, it never passed the eyes of an editor and if it did, that editor should move directly to the unemployment line, not pass go, etc., etc., etc. I feel like buying this book was like being taken advantage of in a "shell game".

I have read 3 other books by Lora Leigh in the "pleasure" series, and enjoyed them. This book however, left me a little disappointed. I read a few of the other reviews prior to purchasing Guilty Pleasure, but decided to give it a chance...I wish I hadn't. I felt the story was rushed and the ending left a lot to be desired.

You're just left hanging..... Supposedly Khalid and Marty's troubles are over at the end of this book but I didn't get that AT ALL! I was very unsatisfied and felt the final scene was totally unfinished. You are just left hanging about any of the details of "what happens now?", and "were any of the other characters okay?". Khalid and Marty never feel like they're really together emotionally in this book. They're playing 'cat & mouse' and guessing about each other's feelings, but they're never honest with their feelings to each other. You feel like the potential's there, that they're almost there, and the sex scenes are HOT, but you don't feel the deep "ah-h-h-h" at the end that there should be. And I don't really feel that Khalid will ever see Marty as a true equal partner, ever, despite her profession. She'll always be the fragile flower that he needs to protect. Which begs the question, "would he really let her go work for a private agency without interfering?" And then there's the whole political aspect- two Saudi men are innocent and working to help save the US from terrorism and the 'alphabet director' is the mental case? Huh? I really don't believe these two men and their people would have the respect, loyalty, and this degree of autonomy at this time in our in our history. And unless there's more details about the ending of this book coming in the next Bound Hearts books.... I'm very unhappy.

Guilty Pleasure,
This review is from: Guilty Pleasure (Bound Hearts, Book 11) (Paperback)
FBI agent Marty Mathews has finally gotten the vacation she has been asking for. Her supervisor is not happy with her because she has not been able to bring him enough information to prove that Khalid el Hamid Mustafa is a terrorist. Marty has been trailing Khalid for years and not once has she found anything to prove he is anything other than a playboy. She has proof of that and then some which breaks her heart - Marty has loved and wanted Khalid since she was a girl of seventeen.Khalid is exactly the type of man that the men in The Club relish as their third in a ménage a trio. He loves giving pleasure and doesn't mind taking his leave once his pleasurable duties are finished. In the last few months, however, Khalid has been noticing Marty more and more. Wait. Who is he kidding? Khalid put the word out that Marty is his and it is only a matter of time before he claims her. With his desire evident in his eyes, Khalid vows that Marty will be his - if he can stay alive long enough. Guilty Pleasure is scorching hot and the heat is constantly being upped in each encounter. Marty is Khalid's equal - she is smart, stubborn, and able to think and take care of herself. That doesn't mean she doesn't need Khalid - because she does. She just wants him on her own terms. Khalid has to quench the desire he has to be hard core with Marty, much to Marty's dismay. When he finally capitulates and treats Marty as the woman she is, the flames they ignite smoke across the page. Guilty Pleasure is stimulating, passionate, and downright naughty! I have my doubts, but if Khalid ever needs me, I am here at the ready! Guilty Pleasure is the eleventh book of Lora Leigh's Bound Hearts series and while it can be read alone, for added insight into the minds of these wonderful men and women, I suggest reading this series in order. Guilty Pleasures a Big Disappointment,
This review is from: Guilty Pleasure (Bound Hearts, Book 11) (Paperback)
I was so eager to learn Khalid's story that I rushed to purchase the book as soon as it was available. After reading the book, I was left with too many unanswered questions. The plot was poorly structured. I am still not sure how the conflict between khalid and the 2 younger brothers started and then escalated to the point described in the book. And what happened to Ahmed. Also, I saw no fore shadowing in any of the previous books that would hint at Khalid being an agent for the CIA. The couple's relationship was not fully developed. It seemed as though the author submitted a rough draft to meet a deadline. As for the sex scenes, every act was described as "so much pleasure". Leigh has produced so many well written and plotted out books. I hope this book is not an indicator of things to come. I got no pleasure at all.

Kahlid's story was supposed to be great! What happened?,

Possible Spoilers (but vague):Like many others I am a HUGE fan of the Bound Hearts series and "The Club". And like many of the other reviewers here, I have been a huge Kahlid fan from the first time he was introduced a couple of books ago. Back in October when I saw the release date for Guilty Pleasure and found out it was going to be Kahlid's story, I immediately pre-ordered! I couldn't wait for Kahlid's own brand of seduction and "middle eastern" style sensuality. I hate to admit this, because I am a fan of LL, but I too was disappointed in this book. There was absolutely NO seduction here because Marty was trying to "bed" Kahlid from the very beginning; so Kahlid didn't have to "work" at this relationship at all. Also, I felt like Shayne's character was extremely weak. It was kind of sensuous for him to be their third and having Marty know him as a only a friend, but that wasn't enough; and unfortunately he wasn't "involved" in the "scenes" as much as I would have liked. So I think it will be hard to get excited about the next book if it's about him. We know absolutely NOTHING about him. With all of that said, the truly interesting character in all of this "unorganized" plot was Kahlid's twin brother Abram! When I first read about him I thought "oh, now this WILL be interesting" thinking he would end up being the third, but unfortunately no. I would, at the very least like to see Shayne hook up with Kahlid's brother as a third in the next book. I too felt as if this book was rushed, the love story was non-existent, the love-making scenes were at times rehashes from other books (I literally saw a line in this book that was word-for-word from a previous one), and the "danger factor" was uninteresting at best. This was almost as if someone else wrote it while LL supervised and worked on something else. I hope it doesn't happen again. I DO want to see the Bound Hearts series to go on! I love it! There just needs to be some variations: maybe revisit a couple and bring in a totally different third (I'm thinking maybe Chase and Kia after they are married). I LOVED Forbidden Pleasure - that was GREAT stuff - that and Only Pleasure (Kahlid plus Chase in a limo!! Holy cow!) are my faves! |
