DON JOHNSON DELIVERS,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guilty as Sin (DVD)
Don Johnson plays a dangerous sociopath who enjoys planning the execution of the women he uses while they think they are using him. He lures a beautiful well connected attorney into defending him against a murder charge by creating evidence that links her to the crime.
So here's the review: Johnson delivers a stunning portrayal of a man who is barely sane but perfectly effective in his manipulations of people, specifically women. Every scene in which he reveals his character is riveting in its complexity. Without Johnson this is an entertaining movie with a competent cast. But Johnson's perfomance is a master class in acting. If you want to see how it's done, get the DVD.

The Movie was very Enjoyable !!!!!!,

This review is from: Guilty as Sin (DVD)
When I first viewed this movie I was quite frankly surprised, because I thought Don Johnson coudn't be in anything but Miami Vice. Boy was I ever wrong. I mean, maybe this would never be nominated for an Oscar. But as far as the plot is concerned, you think you know what is coming next and you get a big surprise. I liked it so much that I gave it four stars. I just wish Mr. Johnson and Ms. Mornay would do something else, maybe a comedy.

I really liked this movie in the theater, and yet it's hard to say why because I can't think of too much in particular that really stood out. So for now, I'll recommend (1) Lumet's direction (I'm being a snob--I can't pinpoint why I liked this fact, but his being behind this movie both impressed and surprised me), (2) Johnson's performance, (3) a slam-bang ending that had my friend and me gasping with delight at how far it was willing to go, and (4) one of those moments that can turn an otherwise humdrum movie into a must see -- pay attention to a scene in which Johnson is at a bar and an attractive woman approaches him. What he says in reply to what she says is so good I wish I'd written it.
