"4 1/2 stars...Anyone who says that romantic suspense is no longer a hot commodity hasn't read Jami Alden. She's quickly making a name for herself as one of the top writers in the genre. Her latest novel continues her streak of excellent, gripping stories and brings captivating recurring characters along for the ride."
--RT Book Reviews

"An emotional, adrenalin rush...Sexual chemistry engulfs these two and spills from the pages with the force of a tsunami...Alden's portrayal of Sean is brilliant, and pairing him with the hard-nosed, determined prosecutor was risky but proved to be perfect. Filled with classic mystery and suspense!
As the story progressed, and we neared the end, I was on the edge of my seat, completely absorbed in the book and how it all played out.
Kathleen Young
Unfortunately there were also a few holes in the story line and as it was a thriller too, that was hard to ignore.

Kate Beckett has built a stable life centered on helping the most venerable among us. She knows what fissures are created in a family when one of them is lost all too soon. Tommy Ibarra was a witness to the terror and pain created when Kate's brother was taken. The family blamed Kate and Tommy for showing more interest in a relationship than responsibility and both of them paid the price.

Now Kate comes back to the town that destroyed her working as the children's advocate she is noted as the leading expert. To her surprise, Tommy is buzzing around with the high tech gadgets of his security company getting into crevices the local police cannot. The further the two of them dig around for clues and answers eerie similarities between other cases become tied into this one raising questions around the depth of the original investigation. Other women have been taken, tortured, and killed but there is a pattern to the killer's madness and clues are hard to find but if you keep looking, you are bound to find something.

For Kate and Tommy the heat between them all those years ago never went away and every moment they are near one another sparks fly bright enough to light of the sky. They try to stay away from one another, they work at keeping the attraction under control but, when something this strong pulls you together it is almost impossible to break it apart. The old wounds can be covered over but can they be healed and both Tommy and Kate need to bring their best work to solving this mystery.

Jami Alden brings the rain with every book she writes and I hope she never stops.

This book had a bit of an identity crisis... that's the best way for me to describe how it made me feel. It wanted to be erotica... it also wanted to be thriller and mystery... and the attempt to make them both did not work for me at all.
Was the erotica written well? Yes! Was the mystery/thriller written well? Yes! Did they belong together? No... not really... This is a matter of personal opinion of course and what kind of content you think is okay to blend together.
Here is where this book went wrong for me personally... I couldn't enjoy the erotica because the tragic circumstances surrounding this romance did not work well together. Mainly because Kate was supposed to be investigating the kidnap/disappearance of a young girl. It was very "wrong" and strangely out of place for Kate and Tommy to be thinking erotic thoughts about each other CONSTANTLY when they were in the middle of an intense and time sensitive investigation. And, it definitely didn't work for them to stop and have mind blowing erotic sex. I kept thinking that if I were in the middle of something that important sex would not be on the forefront of my mind. And, considering they were both adults... this type of behavior just didn't seem to fit. I'm not the kind of reader who can successfully change back and forth from erotica to images of a young girl being terrorized. I couldn't enjoy the intimacy when my mind was worried and on the edge about the fate of a young girl being held hostage and being hurt. Nope, couldn't do it. And, if my kid were missing... I would never hire these two... their minds clearly weren't on the job. Perhaps it's simply because I am a mom and my mind just doesn't want to mix the two.

Loved it! Katie and Tommy (makes me think of a song), are great characters. Very easy to like. I'm usually not a fan of old-love, but I couldn't put it down.

The sub-characters are wonderful. Very true to life. Witty, sad, compassionate (at least some of them), etc. -I physically wanted to to hug a few fictional characters in this book.

The killer is kind of a no-brainier, and certainly didn't come as a surprise. But even knowing who it was did nothing to take away from the story.

And the romance was smokin' hot. Wow! A+

Looking forward to the next one...please let it be CJ and Erin. I'm very curious as to the animosity between the two.

Guilty as Sin was a great way to pass the time while I sat immobile, recovering from a knee injury. I love books with mystery and thrills, and the romance that’s sparked but not yet there. This book has it all. It begins with a teenage Kate and Tommy trying for a night of teenage passion that ends with Kate’s younger brother kidnapped and murdered.

Kate returns to the small town, suppressing memories of that night, in order to help find a missing teenage girl. Of course, this wouldn’t be a proper romance if she weren’t teamed up with Tommy, working side by side with him. Barbs are thrown but the tension soon melts and the two become a well-oiled machine, working closely to find the missing girl.

Kate is a strong woman despite what’s been thrown at her in her past – her brother’s murder, her family’s open hostility towards her, her mistake in handling a previous missing child case and the hostile press that came as a result of that error. She just keeps trying to prove herself, more for herself I think than for anyone else. Somehow she still maintains that optimism that things are going to work out – even if not for her then at least for everyone around her.

Tommy became a stronger man in the aftermath of that teenage night. Instead of running the family ranch with his father, he joined the Army and later formed his own private security company. He’s strong (physically, mentally, emotionally) but has the endearing charm of being able to admit when he’s wrong. Too often, though, he only admits it to himself.

Overall, this book was enjoyable (in the way nasty murder/thriller/mysteries can be). I think if you enjoy the works of Karen Rose, Mary Burton, or Beverly Barton, you will enjoy Jami Alden.
