This review is from: Guinness 2000 Book of Records: Millennium Edition (Guinness World Records) (Hardcover)
This is a great book. Many things will amaze you, and with pictures it makes it even better. This is the best one of them all because it adds pictures to the facts. You will enjoy this book!

Guinness Book 2000,
By Ron Hildebrant (McKinleyville, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Guinness 2000 Book of Records: Millennium Edition (Guinness World Records) (Hardcover)
The last truly great Guinness Book was in 1998, and the 1999 edition was so-so, and the 2000 edition is a sorry affair. I have never seen a book drop so quickly from a world class work to something so shameful. It was a huge, huge disappointment to me. Entire categories of records were dropped, such as: trees, birds, prehistoric life, and language. Other categories were butchered beyond recognition, such as: botany, pets, gardening, astronomy, geology, mathematics, zoology, and many others. Too much space is devoted to trivial sports records, driveling nerdy technology (especially computers), and records of trivial transient interest. When the McWhirter brothers used to edit the Guinness Book, they stuck to records of lasting, universal, and appealing interest, and they were also uncompromising in quality. Guinness has since departed severely from those great guidelines. Gone are the neat tables full of interesting facts, the neat classic categories, and well organized format that had, in years past, made the book so appealing. I had in fact ordered copies of the 2000 edition to give to loved ones as a great Christmas gift, thinking the book would be good, but I was so utterly disappointed that I felt terrible shame to give them as gifts, so I sent them back to amazon.com for a refund---I don't want to shortchange my love ones, for they know good quaility when they see it. The book is not worth the time or money to read, and unless Guinness goes back to the old ways(1998 and earlier), I will not be buying anymore of their editions.

TERRIFIC!,

I am a 13 year old and I liked this book a lot. The pictures were colorful and it is a good source of useless information. I would reccommend this book to people of all ages. Even if you're five and can't read, you can look at the pictures. This book makes a great gift, or just something where you go into the bookstore and want to pick something out. This book will really catch your eye with it's silver cover. Overall this is a great book.

Great book for general information. Lot of fun facts, can go over and over the information. Covers lot of different areas. So much fun even for my 6 year old brother.

FILLED WITH TONS OF INTERESTING FACTS!,

What I like most about this book is the dramatic colour and layout. Like all the previous Guinness Books, this one is jam- packed with lots of trivia, amazing facts and figures. The colour, however, is what truly sets this book apart from previous years. Each page seems to come to life and captures the reader's attention. The only downside to the book is the print, which I find a little too small for my liking. If you are young and have great vision, you will not have a problem, but for those of us who are in that mid-life age bracket and wear glasses, the small print eventually becomes very hard on the eyes.

The new format is very easy to look through. I especially appreciated page 145 - it was hilarious. I wonder if it was accidental? Probably not - too perfect! The book was great. Hope you order it to enjoy. PJ

This book is one of those that you can sit down with and read for hours on end. I know I could. Every time I open my copy (even my 1998 copy) I learn something new. Fascinating for all ages. Highly recommended.

I love amazing mind jogging facts. This is one of those books where you pick it up to check it out and end up looking longer than you wanted.
