Can't wait to read about all the records,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guinness World Records 2005: Special 50th Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
My daughter wanted to buy this book from Scholastic Books from her school but it was at a slightly higher price, and so I was happy to find it here at a cheaper price. It is a 287 page book, with glossy pages that have several photos on almost every page. For example page 184 is Language and Literature, and has such records as longest running comic, best selling cookbook, all time best selling book, longest poem, most common language....On that page there are 11 record catagories discussed and two photos. PRetty much the same pattern throughout the entire book. Their "chapters" are titled Human Beings, Natural World, Modern World, Material world, Feats of engineering, Science and Technology, Art and media, Music and entertainment and Sports. There are then subcategories for each chapter. It looks like a fun and easy read and although my 9 year old hasn't seen it yet, I know she will enjoy reading it and relaying record information to us. The cover is quite eyecatching and it is a nice, sturdy book. No regrets here on the purchase.

Great for kids - tons of interesting facts for hours of fun!,
This review is from: Guinness World Records 2005: Special 50th Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
My son's school has DEAR time daily (drop everything and read) and they can read any book from their reading box. This book cycled it's way to my son and he couldn't stop talking about it! Apparently the fourth graders beg to have this (and other record books) as one of their choices. Needless to say - I had to get him his own copy!
The book is almost 300 pages with fabulous pictures and some really unusual facts seperated into different categories covering all manner of records from sports to science. Perfect for skimming, or reading an entire category! Great for kids - and parents too!

This book is a wonderful all-color rendition which has important
factual information on the tallest man, the tripling of the population in the past half century and the spectacular Olympus Mons on the Marsian surface- just to mention a few of the many features contained. The book is perfect for student projects in science and the arts. It well worth the price charged.

An essential reference tool.,
By Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Guinness World Records 2005: Special 50th Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
Whilst some readers will always buy the latest edition of this book because they are interested in the largest, tallest, fastest or whatever, personally I have always found this book to be a first class reference source.
It was from the Guinness Book of records that I learned that the largest Turtle known to man was a giant Leatherback Turtle which (to my great surprise) was washed up on the shores of Ireland - and "not" some Caribbean country as one might expect. Of course, not all the records are repeated from one edition into the next or each book would be identical except for any new records achieved during the past 12 months. For this reason, the reader might need to collect a few editions of the book in order to have as good a collection of records as possible. Just a few loose thoughts really. NM

Although it's not long enough for you to be able to read it all day, you will find yourself unable to set it down and just keep on turning the pages. Guiness world records:2005 is packed to the cover with intriguing facts from every corner of the globe. Buy it and you'll be quizing your family about the longest nails or the biggest ball of yarn.
