3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new if you read gaming sites, January 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guinness World Records Gamers Edition 2010 (Paperback)
If you read a lot of gaming websites such as Joystiq or Destructoid for your gaming news and articles, then you will probably be disappointed by this book. Much of the information provided seems to be common knowledge if you read gaming sites frequently. So far a large portion of the book appears to be nothing more than lists of games from each genre with no rhyme or reason why they are listed in the orders they are in. I've read through about a 3rd of the book and honestly have been bored by much of what is in it. The bright pages and pictures seem to be the most entertaining part of this book.

Bottom Line: My advice is to flip through a actual copy at a local bookstore before deciding if you want to purchase this or not.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice graphics, some errors, January 18, 2010
This review is from: Guinness World Records Gamers Edition 2010 (Paperback)
The book seems well put together, and the game categorization this year is far more logical than that last year (with the laughable space games section and inclusion of Grand Theft Auto with racing games). That being said, after looking through this I immediately noticed some errors, like Duke Nukem Forever being listed as being developed by Valve Corporation. Their opinions are also somewhat off the wall, like everyone's game of the year 2009 Uncharted 2 being listed as the 7th best game of the year, and the top 50 gaming series including Guitar Hero at #4 behind Halo, Call of Duty and Zelda, and ahead of real classics like Super Mario Bros., Metroid, and Final Fantasy. It's like the editor's haven't actually played the recent games, and compiled the collection well in advance of the actual printing date when Uncharted 2 actually came out, or by which time Guitar Hero had been milked to death.

3.0 out of 5 stars Guinness is always good reading, February 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guinness World Records Gamers Edition 2010 (Paperback)
I got this for my 10 and 12 year old boys and they enjoy it; I can't say it's a hallmark of literary genius but hey, it gets them reading. Sure, I'd love them to read Henty or Dickens or even Ingalls Wilder, but I'm not opposed to a little mixing things up here and there, and well, they like it!
