I purchased this book for my Step-father, who was looking to learn some guitar basics. He's enjoying the book and actually learning to play some of the more simple songs.

I taught guitar lessons for years and used this book as the primary study for virtually every beginning guitar player, and used book 2 for virtually all intermediate or "better beginner" players. the method teaches a well rounded approach incorporating basic note reading, basic music theory, chords, etc. It makes a great foundation for future studies, and works best when supplemented with some fun songs that match the students interests and skill levels. highly reccomend it. I studied with the author for 4 years as a guitar major at Utah State University, and this is the same book he uses in his college courses for the beginners.

I used this book when I was first learning to play guitar, and found the lessons clear and easy to follow. The book is especially good for those who are guitar novices. There are drawings that label the parts of the guitar and show proper hand placement. A short glossary goes over basic guitar terms so the reader doesn't feel lost. The lessons are step-by-step, gradualy increasing in complexity to prevent the frustration common in learning a musical instrument. Christiansen worked as a guitar instructor, and it shows.
