Dyens and Villa-Lobos, May 20, 2000

I bought this CD to hear the composer's own interpretation of the Homage a Villa-Lobos. What I later found out is that the other works on the CD by Villa-Lobos himself are probably the new standard for the entire guitar community. Insightful, emotional, and adoptive of the improvisational nature found in both Dyens and Villa-Lobos. The experience of the performer shines through each piece, and with his obvious interest in Brazilian music, these pieces sound at home under his fingers. Well-done, and I await further recordings. I recommend this CD as well as Dyens' Nuages. Excellent work.
