I have been Searching for a book on Guitar Pedals, Stompboxes & Floor Effects . . . and this is ( without a doubt ) The New Bible. It has been Recently Updated & Expanded to Include even more Boutique Effects, and Also comes with an Audio CD. It is very well Written, and takes you from the Early Fuzz Face, to State-of-the Art: Strymon Effects. It includes ( conversations ) with: The Master's of Guitar Effects: Pete Cornish, Roger Mayer, Brian Wampler, Michael Fuller ( of Fulltone ) and Mike Matthews of E.H. ( Electro Harmonix ) among many others. I Love Guitars & Effect Pedals, as I play both Acoustic & Electric, and I'm also an Engineer & Producer. Mr. Dave Hunter " Thank You " - Awesome Book - I Can't put it down. - Michael / Astoria / NYC -

Black & white only! No color pictures inside. Good foundation of information on a variety of popular pedals. The interviews with the pedal designers I found most interesting.

In general this is a very good and interesting book about the various guitar effects pedals currently available. I wish it had two other features however, namely, 1.) more development history and critical evaluation of the pedals mentioned, and 2.) at least some coverage of the zillions of MULTI-effects pedals currently on the market. Purists might still wish to buy each pedal separately, but most guitarists today will probably opt, both for reasosn of cost and convenience of use, for one of the many new pedals -- by many, many different vendors -- which allow the same pedal to provide the sounds of many pedals simultaneously, and combine these in creative ways to produce zillions of new and original tonal possibilities. Most guitarists today want to avoid the complications and troubles of stringing together say six different effects pedals in some jerry-rigged "stomp-box" of pedals which ixs tghen carted around to each gig. [I mean that is just SO 1990s!!] Several companies -- from Boss to Digitech to Line 6 to Zoom and on and on -- have thus been producing easy to use MULTI-effects pedals for several years now. Therefore most guitarists today will want to know how these multi-effects pedal offerrings compare with one another; e.g. are the overdrive options on the Line 6 units better or inferior sounding than those provided in the current line of VOX pedals.
