5.0 out of 5 stars The only chord book you`ll ever need !, January 27, 2000
This review is from: Guitar Chord Encyclopedia (Ultimate Guitarist's Reference) (Paperback)
I have bought so many chord books out there and this is the only one that i have ever needed and that`s a fact. I do alot of chord melody so i`m allways looking for that chord that has the right note in the top of the chord. No looking anymore..With Guitar Chord Encyclopedia you have every chord you`ll ever need. I`m talking about 36 chords in EVERY KEY! And Chord progressions and every thing about Chord Theory, intervals, chord structure, bulding chords, cicle of fifths and even explains Tablature. If there`s one thing i got to say about this book is ...Thanks Steve Hall for every chord i`ll need!

4.0 out of 5 stars know what you're buying, February 6, 2007

This review is from: Guitar Chord Encyclopedia (Ultimate Guitarist's Reference) (Paperback)
This book has tons of chords with tons of variations for each. However, you should know what you're getting before you buy it. This is NOT a chord progession book. It will not tell you how to use the chords. If you already know what chords you want to play, this book will help you find possible variations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good solid chord book, August 31, 2007
This review is from: Guitar Chord Encyclopedia (Ultimate Guitarist's Reference) (Paperback)
This book is a good reference for all the basic voicings of every chord. If you want jazz chords (or any other genre of music) this book won't give it. If you don't have a chord reference book, or are unhappy with the one you have, this is the book you want.

The only drawback I found was I thought I was buying the spiral bound edition (for ease of use). This was not the case. I was under this false impression because there is a review on this book that remarked on the ease of use because of the spiral binding. So, if binding matters to you, you may want to confirm the binding before purchasing.

Caveat Emptor -- The spiral bound though smaller in size, has fewer pages (I would expect more pages to compensate for the size). It might not contain all the chords the regular edition does. Be sure to check this out if it matters to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Portable, March 10, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This is the best guitar chord encyclopedia I know of. It is comprehensive and portable, the spiral binding allows for easy hands free reference, and the price is right. Multiple voicings for chords are provided in chord diagram formmat. The introduction to chord theory is an added bonus as is the fingerboard chart on the back cover. Fits perfectly into a guitar case.

Very impressed! I've been using this book for 2 months now and have not yet run across a chord that is not in the book. Each cord also has every possible fingering variety. Discovered chords I never new exists. A must for musicians that are learning songs off the sheet music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Chord Encyclopedia, October 26, 2011

For all guitarists, the search is over!

First of all, understand this is a chord ENCYCLOPEDIA, nothing more, just chord notations, no theory, no progressions, etc.

The book: It has a small preface to explain how to play chord and extreme basic guitar theory, like tablature, hand position, chord structure, etc (this small preface is for beginners only), after that, it has all keys, from A to G, each key will have 36 variations (meaning, A, Asus, A7, A+, Adim, A5th, etc) and each of those variations have from 15 and perhaps up to 40 different positions to play the same chord, so your looking to a complete, and very useful chord encyclopedia/dictionary.

This should be the only guitar chord encyclopedia you need to have on your library, however, this is not going to work if your looking for special chords such as a chord over another chord, for example: A/G#. When chords are divided by chords they stop being called variation chords, rather they are named special chords, for this you will need a specialized book on special chords.

With this book, I guarantee you will discover chord variations you've never heard of, as well as different wicked and extreme positions, every musician should have this a must on their library. It is worth every single penny and quite efficient.

If any questions about the book, feel free to drop me a comment and I will try to answer asap.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Guitar chords than you can shake your axe at..., September 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book really covers guitar chords in a way that is more than thourough. I told my niece if she could learn to change ten guitar chords fast - that is the only prerequisite for being in a rock & roll band. Spiral bound and more than can be learned, at least by me...

Thanks to you people who reviewed this book I bought it and found it to be everything you have said it to be. I love Amazon because of people like you who can tell me what I can expect from the products I may purchase. I could just kiss you all for your input and I say it's about time I leave input to help others who, like me, come to Amazon and read the reviews before they purchase the product. This is, without a doubt, the BEST guitar chord book I have ever encountered. So far, it's everything I have ever wanted in a guitar chord book and more! I highly recommend it ESPECIALLY to those who have bought Music Minus One (MMO) books that have no chord charts next to the chord names. I am now working on a song from the Latin Styles For Guitar book called: Chorinho From Brazil and this book is proving to be my guitar saving grace. This book is helping to create a true renaissance of guitar for me and I just want to highly recommend it to anyone who wants the best in a guitar chord book. I only hope I don't change my mind tomorrow. Ha! Oh, I'll let you know if I do, but...I don't think so

5.0 out of 5 stars The only chord book you should get, March 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Guitar Chord Encyclopedia (Ultimate Guitarist's Reference) (Paperback)
There are about 7500 chord forms in this book. I do not know of any chord encyclopedia that has more. I would not say that is overkill. It just increases your options and gives you more freedom to play what you want. The more the better is what I say. If you get a less exhaustive chord book then one day you're going to wonder what variations/options this book had that you never knew about and you're going to buy this book in the end anyways. Even in here there are some chords missing. A common form of D+ is not in here even though there are 26 D+ variations listed. This book is a little larger and heavier than your average chord book so its not exactly portable. Also, be aware that different people will call the same chords by different names. An A2 to one person is an Asus2 to another and is an A(add 9)to another.
