This book is exactly what it claims to be, a way to build your own pickups with the cost of building the device held firmly in place. Armed with this tool and just a little mechanical ability you will be able to build your own pickup winder using parts that are easy and cheep to find. Once you read the book and see where it is going you are limited only by your own mechanical creativity and checkbook. I am using many of his ideas in building my own winder but I have also made many changes to the original design. Other useful information in this book are, how vintage pickups are made, templates for making your own bobbins ranging from popular Gibson and Fender guitar and bass styles to 8 and 10 string peddle steel and mandolin styles. There is useful information on how to test windings using inexpensive Ohm meters and a list of what many vintage readings should be, as well as a good list of other books to read on the subject and a list of suppliers for magnets and magnetic wire.

Great winder plan.,

This is a very good plan for building a pickup winder cheaply. It has very detailed and well explained instructions and diagrams. The book also has some good information about the basics of pickup design which is not available in the other books on this subject which I have read. Importantly, Jason Lollar has started publishing it again in a revised and updated edition which is available from his website [...] for much less than the older used copies are available.
