5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
I received this disk as a Valentine's present in 1999, and my wife and I are constantly passing it back and forth. Soothing, relaxing and yet upbeat. GREAT!

Buy it, you won't regret it!

3.0 out of 5 stars good but not great
All the guitar players on this recording are of the highest caliber, but the music compositions are mostly so so."South by Winterwest" by Billy Mclaughlin is a great piece, and "It never gets easier"by Muriel Anderson is a fine work, as is "Grandpa's Lullaby" by Pat Kirtley. The overall tone of the album is very soft and meant to soothe, and it...

5.0 out of 5 stars a true sampling of talent and style, April 16, 2002
This review is from: Guitar Fingerstyle, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
I have a love for guitar music of all kinds. Be it jazz, rock, blues, acoustic or other. But more and more I find myself listening to lots of acoustic guitar, the warm tones evoke moods and emotions like few other instruments can. In the hands of these accomplished artists, the playing is raised to new heights. This is a great CD for driving, for quiet nights home alone, or with a special someone. Highly recommended for those who are just beginning to explore the genre as well as those who already enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothe Music, July 9, 2006
This review is from: Guitar Fingerstyle, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite albums. The music is, in my opinion, excellently chosen. Some compilation CDs have awkward transitions between artists. On this album, the songs are arranged in a very pleasing order. You can listen and appreciate the different styles of the artists without feeling like you are getting pulled in different directions. The best way I can describe it is to write that it is like reading an excellently chosen book of short stories.

This album is fabulous for artistic inspiration. It is beautiful without being imposing. As a teacher of English, I often look for music that will inspire my students to write without distracting them. For the past four years, this CD has been one that my students have enjoyed listening to while they work.

I heard this CD being played as background music to my daughter's guitar recital...as the audience was arriving for the concert. It captivated my wife and I to the point that I searched everywhere I could to obtain a copy. The music instructor of the night could not recall which CD he utilized (he apparently has quite a variety in his collection). I purchased six acoustic CDs in search of this one. AM I GLAD I FINALLY FOUND THIS ONE AT AMAZON.com! What a great mix of relaxing and diverse acoustic tunes. I am a big "Acoustic Alchemy" band fan, but this is my all-time favorite CD. And I really appreciate Amazon.com's extra effort in their quality packaging of these products. I haven't had a CD or DVD breakage yet! And the time frame from ordering to arrival is very impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best contemporary acoustical guitar collections, April 12, 1999

Narada has been known for find top contemporary acoustic artists, and this collection of fingerstyle guitar players shows that skill off. Highly recommened. For those of you turned off by guitar music that is too classical, too spanish, or too jarring, this album has none of that and should please you.

A friend of mine bought this album a while ago and played it for me. I am a fan of Leo Kottke and so thought he was the ultimate in fingerstyle. I soon realized that he has competitors. This album is one of the finest I have encountered and will long be one of my favorites. It has inspired me to become more proficient at the guitar. Check out the tracks, To B or Not To B, Crow, Lunar Eclipse, The First Ride. The rest of the album is none-the-less engaging. Highly Recommended!!! Enjoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must own for guitar fingerstyle lovers, March 28, 2010

I absolutely love this cd. Both it and the second volume are wonderful items to add to any collection. Great mix up of different 'moods'. The first volume is a bit more mellow, but both are great to listen to, and the skill and talent involved on the songs are amazing. It is truly hard to find a compilation like this. It has taken me around 2-3 years. So if you're even halfway interested, you should buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent accoustic guitar disk, May 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Guitar Fingerstyle, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
I purchased this disk because it looked interesting, and found that I really liked it. "Crow", "South by Winterwest" and "Helm's Place" are all really outstanding tracks. If you listen to NPR radio, you may have heard snippets of these songs between main news features. In all, this is a technically strong CD of good and varied performances. Check out other titles by Narada.
