I've owned the LP version of this CD since it was first released, and it brings to mind something that must be kept in mind when reviewing this or any re-release of of 30+ year old material. When this album was first released, it was NOTICED by jazz guitarists, for no other guitarist at the time had the audacity to mix styles and genres so freely. Here was Burrell, who had released the "Man At Work" LP--a classic straight ahead club recording of his trio--trying something that puzzled some and delighted others. Most, however, respected him as an artist of great versatility and, yes, even courage. To today's ears, Evans' mid-60s charts may at times seem intrusive, one or two numbers may pale when compared to others, but Burrell's great artistry never wavers.

I like virtuoso guitar play and I heard much prominent guitar players, playing in different styles. But Kenny Burrell not only virtuoso - I think it plays by the soul. The impression from his play much increases due to accompaniment of Gil Evance orchestra. It became for me so strong that I change my bias against the big orchestras on love.

The impression from his play much increases due to accompaniment of Gil Evance orchestra. It became for me so strong that I change my bias against the big orchestras on love.
