An Expansion, (almost) Nothing More...,
By videogamer (Lockport,NY) - See all my reviews
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Guitar Hero on Tour Decades Bundle (Video Game)
This game is basically the same as the DS's first instalation of Guitar Hero this past June, but it also features song sharing, a way to utilize the first GH:DS to make the DS to DS multiplayer even more expansive (up to 53 songs to rock out together with). It includes 28 songs compared to the first instalation's 25 songs, which for the most part is a solid tracklist. It has its clinkers (as much as I love "We Are The Champions", I must admit that its 45-second piano solo do not fit Guitar Hero), but I love songs such as "Can't Stop" and "Sweet Home Alabama".
Overall, I'd say this is a pretty fun DS game. It may not vary much from the game of June, but if you liked that one, you'll have a blast with this one. Perhaps its not worth its $35 game-only price tag, but jamming out on the DS doesn't get much better than this.

My granddaughter (age 8) requested this game for her Nintendo DS as a birthday gift. She absolutely loves it and plays this game all the time! It is everything she expected it to be.

Holy Hand Cramp!,

Pros: A great song selection, pretty good gameplay (on lower difficulty levels at least), fun on battle mode.
Cons: Hand cramps and neck cramps especially on Hard and Expert, other technical issues, more songs and store items would be nice. Just like the first "Guitar Hero: On Tour", this one has a good song list with much lighter songs (appropriate to the DS) than the original Guitar Hero games. Activision didn't skimp on this game and each decade has songs from some really well known bands. Organizing the songs into different decades is also far more satisfying than a random organization. The gameplay is similar enough to the original Guitar Hero to work fairly well, especially on Easy or Medium difficulty. The guitar pick stylus to strum with mimics the feeling of playing guitar closely enough for the game to have that "make believe" appeal. This game also features a battle mode that works even better than the battle mode in Guitar Hero III. The features of the DS are really utilized in battle mode, and you'll find yourself signing leg warmers that pop up on screen and blowing frantically when your equipment catches on fire. On easy or medium, I'd easily give this game at least four stars, but on the upper difficulty level, problems start to mount. Trying to play some of the songs on hard or expert can cause severe hand cramps for BOTH hands. Switching positions can alleviate this somewhat, but not enough. Neck cramps also occur. When playing a fast section, there is often the tendency to not strum in exactly the right place, screwing up you note streak. Sometimes, the guitar attachment will pop out of the DS forcing you to restart the entire system. All of these were problems in the original "Guitar Hero: On Tour" and I don't see that too much has been done to fix them here. Maybe it is a fruitless wish as the DS is only capable of so much, but it would also be nice to be able to buy more items and songs at the store like on the games for larger systems. Not much is available here. This game has a good song list, good concept and good gameplay on lower difficulty levels, but I cannot bring myself to love a game that is actually physically painful to play. Too many technical issues. 3+ stars.

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas and I'm not sure who loves it more, me or her! First I'll go into the hand cramp issue that a lot of people have problems with. If you do not put your hand through the hand strap and only loop your thumb through it for stability then your hand with not cramp up. If you place a pillow on your lap to rest your arm on while you're playing then your wrist will not cramp up. It's all about placement and comfort. Of course you cannot play this for hours on end, you'll end up with carpal tunnel and cross eyed. :)
We have Band Hero for our Wii and have this for her DS and love them both. This game on the DS (ours is the DS lite so it has the extra hole in the bottom for the adapter) is a fun thing to take on the road and it does have the option to play along with friends if others also have the game. I like the music on this Guitar Hero in particular, we also have the "On Tour" one... I'm partial to the "oldies" though so I like the Decades version. It starts out quite easy on the lower levels and the upper levels get quite difficult! I've finished about 6 songs on Hard and then it got WAY hard, it will take some serious practice for me to get more done. I've recommended this to my friends and family and think it's a great game.

I bought this game for my grandson who got the DS Lite for Christmas. He loves it and his two sisters love it too, but they have to use his DS to play it because it does not fit on the DSi's they got for Christmas. On Christmas the three of them used it most of the day and totally left all their new games alone. I would say that this one is a winner. I am very glad I ordered it.

I have two DSiXLs and was upset to see this game only works with the Dss that are backwards compatible to gamecube games!! I ended up giving it to a friend and they said the game is complicated for an adult to play, then alone a child!!

OK, I got lucky. I order this product when it was listed on Amazon.com under $3. I read that it would work on a DS Lite on some of the other reviews. Shipping and handling cost $3.99 totaling the product at under $7 total. I have to say I am overwhelmed. The game works perfectly and the hardware attachment is easily set up to the DS Lite. It works on the same basis as the Rock Band/Guitar Hero games used on the Playstation 3. I've seen the exact same product at a local drugstore who are charging $20 for the unit.
At less than $10, the game is a steal! Sure, I don't know or care for some of the songs on the game, but I don't know any Rock Band/Guitar Hero gameplayer will ever be happy with every single song. Going through the songs on Easy mode makes it virtually painless to get through to the songs you really want to work on! The package came in by the expected delivery date fully intact and there was absolutely nothing wrong with any of its contents. I made out like a bandit! If you like this type of gaming, good luck in catching it at a rock-bottom price like I did!

Great game and super way to connect the key pad to the DS. Almost as much fun as the full console version.
