First off, I think this edition is superior to any other Guitar Hero game. The fantastic quality of the game and song selection is worth the extra money, which some people have complained about. Any fan of Metallica can appreciate the work put into this game. And for the impatient Metallica fans, you only have to beat a couple of songs to get about 9 more songs, so you can skip right to the 'tallica ones.
I don't care much about graphics, but the ones in this game are terrific. The band members look kind of creepy, but overall match pretty well with their actual appearances. That said, my one complaint about the game is the final song. These types of game have been known for increasing the difficulty of songs, while giving you a powerhouse of a song at the end (Freebird, Through The Fire And Flames, etc). So what's the finale for this game? The Thing That Should Not Be. A good song in its own right, but anyone who knows it also knows that it's certainly not Metallica's fastest, most difficult or most interesting song by a long shot. It really boggles my mind as to why they chose it to be the final song. I just beat it on Easy and, especially after getting through Dyers Eve and Fight Fire With Fire (which are fairly tricky even on Easy), the one-note repetitive strumming of 'Thingy' was a giant let-down. Apparently Neversoft didn't want to include Blackened or And Justice For All since they're available for Rock Band, which sucks but is fair enough. I have no idea why 'Thingy' was chosen instead of, say, The Four Horsemen. That song is fast, long and quite epic- perfect for the end of a Guitar Hero game. I've read some posts from people saying they couldn't include Horsemen because it would be too hard, but anyone who's played Dragonforce knows Neversoft can make anything work on Guitar Hero. Aside from this one thing, the game is great. It spans Metallica's entire career to date, with at least one song from every album (which unfortunately includes Frantic from St. Anger and the dreadful NA NA NA NA nonsense of The Memory Remains from Reload). But you can get past those two and play some truly amazing songs, most of which I've gotten an even greater appreciation for after playing the game. You can also access "Metallifacts," which plays an animated video for every song (even by other bands) and gives you interesting facts about them, sort of like Pop-Up Video. I definitely recommend this game for any fan of Metallica or Guitar Hero, and if you like both, you'll be in absolute glory.

Guitar Hero Metallica for the Wii is just great! The songs are very challenging which makes them so much fun to play. We also have the drums and that makes it double the fun to play with someone else. I highly recommend this title for any Guitar Hero fan, let alone Metallica fans everywhere.

This game is a perfect 10! Activision and Metallica outdid themselves 10X over. This game could not be more metal if it came delivered in an iron box. It rocks hard!!

Best Guitar Hero Game,

I may be biased because I am an old school Metallica fan, but this game should be the high water mark for other Guitar Hero and Rock Band games that showcase a band. As far as the other band exclusive games, Aerosmith was weak as best and the AC/DC game could have been more than just the live album. I hope the Beatles game will be everything this game is and maybe a bit more.

Best of all Guitar Hero Titles,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

The game plays much better than the other titles in this series. The animations are ridiculous as this is the first time that actual band member video capture was used to show every last mannerism and make the songs truly come alive in the experience. The extras, like behind the scenes videos and facts about the songs and band are a must for the true hardcore fan. A++++++++++++++++.

This is a great game, and a must have for a Rock N' Roll fan that also is a video game fan. It is very interactive and you just can't stop playing it. I only hope that there is an Iron Maiden version coming soon

You really are a Guitar Zero until you play Metallica Guitar Hero. The songs are really challenging. I haven't tried it on my drum set yet, but can only imagine how complicated it must be to play like Lars!
Rock On!!!

This game is intense. The songs are super fun to play since a good majority of them are really fast, even on easy. I have a great time playing this game with my husband. This is probably the best GH I have played so far.
The only thing I DONT like is having to sit through the lame videos when starting the game. I'd like to be able to skip past though but it doesnt seem to let us do that like the other GH games do.

bought the game for my husband since I couldn't get tickets to their show - has many great songs, and not just metallica songs.. My children really like playing this game too. The only problem is that you can only set up one band so my husband has to play with the same band as the children which is different from the original guitar hero where everyone can have their own band.

4 out of 5 stars, muuuuuuch better than World Tour,

Okay, so I had a really sour experience when moving from Legends of Rock to the world tour game.
The set lists in Metallica are much better than world tour. You also get to choose which songs you want to play. How you proceed through the game: You need to achieve a certain number of stars to release the next set list, which I think is super awesome! Example: you need 6 stars to open the next set list, so if you get a 3 star performance, you need another 3 star performance (or better) to move on to the next list. Like in World Tour, I don't like how the problem of sensitivity for the tilt to use your star power; it is just as hard to use if you are still using the old controller that came out with legends of rock. I don't want to hit a button to get star power, that's lame!!! I refuse to purchase your over-priced controller!!! I am about an hour into the game and very much prefer using the Metallica Avatars even though they are a little strange. The Kirk model is more accurate, but not to the point of being scary looking. (I'm talking about you Trujillo) Medium Level on Guitar is still quite easy, so once I get through the game once for funzies on medium, I'll go through on hard, then expert. There seem to be extras for the songs, which I am not interested in at this point, the sound is good and the game play is pretty good. You have a bit of a story which reminds me of Legends of Rock, but I don't know the ending yet, sorry. Jeeze, I hope that they have Whiskey in the Jar on the song list! I'll leave an update once I know for sure. |
