First of all, I totally agree with the review that slams the flimsy biodegradable cardboard packaging on the free version of the game. For something I didn't really pay for and something I'm not going to play every day, I'd much rather have it sitting in a hard plastic case that will be here long after my great grandchildren die. Shame on Activision and VH for thinking of Mother Earth and assuming that I might possibly be able to handle my disc carefully. (Seriously, dude, my GH 5 came in a hard case, and my 2-year-old just ruined that one tonight when I wasn't looking. Get over yourself.)

Seriously - again - this is a good game. The VH songs are solid and from the original (good ol') albums. The medium level is admittedly fairly easy, but I don't mind if it means that a wannabe like me can play along with Eddie Van Halen. It's a better challenge if you move above that, and that's also a good thing.

Is it graphically up to par with some of the earlier GH games? Maybe not. The images of the band are obviously from the recent tour, so you'll get Roth with the short hair and, yes, you'll get Wolfgang on bass. I'd rather see Michael Anthony, but I would have rather seen him on tour, too. Oh, well. And while I tend to be a purist when it comes to music, I can live with the new vocalist on the Foreigner tune. That's not why I got this. I got it because I wanted to play some classic VH stuff, and the game didn't let me down there.

If you're buying GH VH for the way it looks, you might be disappointed. If you're looking for some good music to play and a chance to feel at least a little like Eddie Van Halen for a while, you're in good shape. And - if you order now - it'll probably come in one of those snazzy long-lasting plastic cases.

It's and excelent game and y its a lot of fun, only wish there were more songs from van halen and that they shouldn include other bands songs.... I bought the game for Van Halen

This Guitar Hero game is great if you love a challenge but don't waste your time if you are only getting it because of your love of Van Halen. There are not enough of the great songs from their last couple of albums and there are SEVERAL guest bands doing covers on this game.

As a side note, Eruption is the song to beat but you have to work yourself up to it.

Fun game for a Van Halen fan and even my daughter likes it. Received it quickly in new condition.

In my personal opinion the game play of this isn't quite as fun as other Guitar Hero games I've played but I do enjoy playing to some of the greats by Van Halen

Guitar Hero Van Halen overall is good. Don't be too serious of a player, the music is good but I found the difficulty to be a bit less than the newer games like Warriors of Rock. I had to up the difficulty level on this to get the same challenge feeling that I get on Guitar Hero 5 and Warriors of Rock. Once that adjustment was made it was really enjoyable, and it definitely provides lots of good tunes!

I'll just put it out there. The first album I bought as a teenager was Van Halen II. Van Halen was my favorite band pre-Hagar (though Dreams is one of my top favorites). I just got finished with a few songs and have almost never smiled so much during a game. I really couldn't care a less about the visuals (though I spent hundreds outfitting a pc for Crysis, and it was worth every penny). Playing along with Eddie was the best. I like these games mostly for the music selection so this was a no-brainer. If you are a Hagar VH fan you will be entirely disappointed. I think this one has a pretty specific audience, but as a member of that group, I looooovvvved it.

Great for Van Halen fans. Just try to keep up with Eddie and Wolfie! Lots of fun and a must have. My kids are even enjoying listening to some real rock.

My perspective might be colored by the fact that I got this game for free as part of the GH 5 promotion, but I like it! It's a lot of fun. I don't miss the Sammy Hagar songs and I liked most of the non-Van Halen songs that are included. So far I've enjoyed Guitar Hero: Van Halen a lot more than GH 5.

This game does seem a little short and that's my biggest complaint. I also would prefer to have the awesome old school dressed Van Halen band in all of the songs, but that's peripheral to me.

This game is fun to play, the set list is good, but, there is a lack of New VanHalen songs. The VanHalen Songs stop at 1984 album. Where are VanHalen classics like, "Why Can't This Be Love", "Love Walks In", "Black-n-Blue", "Right Now" and the ultimate Sammy song, as only VH can play it, "I can't Drive 55". While this is a fun game to play and the set list is good, there are more than a few songs missing. If you like to rock out and have some fun playing a "real" guitar, rather than air guitar, to your old favorites, then this is your game. ROCK ON !!!
