5.0 out of 5 stars Fixed PS2 read error
Here's what I did to fix the same problem on my PS2 (Slim model # SCPH-70012). This should work for all models of PS2's. (Slim or Fat). Sony says all models can read a dual layer disc. If the fix doens't work then you need to send in your PS2 for service.

1) Start up the PS2 with no disc in it.
2) Highlight the 'Browser' menu and press the 'green...

3.0 out of 5 stars Guitar won't sync
I got the game last night. I love the game, but I cant get the guitar and remote to sync. I had to go out and get a corded guitar to play the game, but it doesn't have all the new features on it. I tried everything and cant get the wireless guitar to sync, What a bummer. But the game ROCKS.

2) Highlight the 'Browser' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
3) Highlight the 'Console' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
4) Highlight the 'Diagnostics' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'ON'.
5) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu.
6) Highlight the 'PlaystationDrive' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
7) Highlight the 'Disc Speed' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'FAST'.
8) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu.
9) Turn off your PS2.

10) This step is optional.......I blew into the main unit to loosen any dust out of it and then carefully used my shirt to wipe across the lens at the back of the drive. I'm not sure if this mattered or not. Since I did this in conjuction with the above steps I can't say if this is needed.

11) Insert the disc and turn the PS2 back on. The diagnostics should run and automatically adjust your PS2 to play the game. I was amazed! Mine loaded right up after several previous days of nothing.

12) I checked the settings after the initial load and the Diagnostics and Drive speed reset to normal so it must be a one time run thing. My game has loaded everytime since and I haven't had to re-do the settings at all.

I hope this works for you too!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!, December 16, 2008

Ok, after "freaking out" when reading the last reviewer who said his/her PS2 game disc did not play, I opened my kids' Christmas present this evening (the GHWT Band) and made sure that it in fact DOES work. For piece of mind, I'm glad I checked but now I can't wait until my boys hook it up and start "jammin'" so I can join in. It looks pretty awesome!!

Update Jan. 6th - I was curious and did a little research about the issue and it appears that the GHWT discs are not working with the older PS2s - which is horrible for lots of people out there. Apparently there is a TINY - and I checked my box and it is tiny - statement - which states it will only work with the NTSC version of PS2 (newest versions of the system). Fair of the manufacturer...I think not. Kinda reminds me of how they took the chip out of the new Ps3's so you can't play ps2 games on them.

Over all this game is a great addition to the Guitar Hero series. The only issues are the load time on the PS2 which I should've expected, but over all my daughter loves this game and it gets her plenty of practice for when she plays against her brothers on the PS3.

I'd give this a 5 star rating if it weren't for some glitches in the program. There are some Guitar Hero discs that do not work with this particular Guitar Hero guitar. Otherwise, decent price for a fun item.

It's not my favorite Guitar Hero CD, but it's not bad. I don't like the load time and I think the graphics are different. Maybe that's just me though. I also wish I had the drums, mic, and additional guitar/bass. That might help with it's fun-ability.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy.... prob w/ disc & lousy cust support, December 25, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: PS2 Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Kit (Accessory)
This was bought for my son as a Christmas gift. When he opened it he was beyond happy to have received it. A short while later he wasn't so happy anymore.
The disc could not be read by his PS2. When I called customer support I was told that GH World Tour is a dual layered disc. The problem could be a bad disc, or a misaligned laser on the PS2 itself that would need to be fixed to allow it to read the dual layering (All other games played fine before and after...just not this one).
I was told that I would have to borrow the same discs from friends to test which was the problem. When I responded that I don't know anyone with this game that I could borrow from it was suggested that I rent it from the video store.
Now I feel that enough money was spent on the item to begin with. It doesn't really seem fair that on top of that I have to pay for gas to drive 14 miles to the nearest video store, then I have to pay the rental fee for the game, more gas to go home, and more gas later to return the rental. However, because I love my kid I did go through this process, on Christmas Day no less.
When I got home I discovered that the video store had given me the wrong game. I had GH Legends of Rock. That played just fine, but it was made before the dual-layering so it really didn't answer the question of whether we had a bad disc or a misaligned laser.
Needless to say, I am NOT willing to put even MORE time and money into doing what I consider to be Customer support's job. I believe that they should either create discs that don't have this problem (upon further research of GH games I find that I am not the only one who has suffered this problem with the World Tour Game in particular), or they should very clearly list that this may be an issue.
I also think that they should issue a replacement disc without the customer having to spend more money and time trying to diagnose the problem.
Of course, they've made their money I suppose, so what's it to them if my son's best present turns out to be a dud, or if I have to spend extra time and effort to fix the situation? Well, hence the reason for my review. I hope that it will help someone else to avoid the problem, and I also hope that it will keep them from making money and then not giving good service to fix difficulties created by their lovely "dual-layering" idea.
As I said in the title of my review, I would NOT recommend buying this at all. Buy the GH's that were made prior to World Tour, those seem to work fine, but don't do this particular GH. And if you want decent Customer Service then I wouldn't recommend buying Guitar Hero at all.
