Start a Band...the Guitar Hero Way

Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero's signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines advanced wireless instruments with online and offline gameplay modes including online Band Career and 8-player "Battle of the Bands," which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online. The game features a slick redesigned guitar as well as a Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock ‘n’ roll anthems.

*Note: The drum kit controller and microphone are sold seperately.

Wireless Instruments

New to GHWT is a redesigned, more responsive guitar controller, which features a touch-sensitive slide bar on the neck that allows the player to play through certain song passages without needing to strum.

Be the Next Great Songwriter

Music Studio lets players express their musical creativity by giving them access to a full complement of tools to create digital music from scratch utilizing the guitar controller and drum kit. Players can create their tracks and then play them in-game or share the recordings with the entire Guitar Hero community through GHTunes. GHTunes allows other gamers from around the world to download and play the community's original tracks. Available to PlayStation 3 gamers is Line 6's guitar tone technology, enabling them to use amps, cabs, and effects from the Line 6 POD.

Create the Band

Budding rock stars can live out their rock ‘n’ roll fantasies by playing either a single instrument or any combination of instruments, in addition to the full band experience. When rocking as part of a band, up to four players can jam together in quickplay or as they progress through a career. Both band and single-player careers feature non-linear progression giving artists the option to change difficulty and instruments with a variety of different gigs available at any time.

Never Jam Solo Again

Virtual musicians in need of band mates can take their careers online forming worldwide ensembles so no rock star ever has to play a gig solo. Plus, GHWT adds a "Battle of the Bands" modes, which allows eight players to join online and challenge each other band-to-band to establish global supremacy.

Customize Everything

The character creator allows gamers to create a rock star with style as unique as their own. Absolute customization from the clothes, to the facial and body structure, to the tattoos and accessories, players are encouraged to unleash their inner rock legend. The Rock Star Creator doesn't just allow players to build the ultimate rock god; the in-depth creators include the ability to customize guitars, drums and microphones. Adding yet another layer of personalization, gamers can create custom logos for their instruments, band, or album covers.

A Set List for the Ages

The Guitar Hero World Tour set list is comprised entirely of master recordings from some of the greatest artists of all-time including Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles, and Sublime. There are over 85 tracks, plus frequent downloadable singles and track packs. In addition to the killer track list, the game will feature rock icons such as Hayley Williams of Paramore and Travis Barker of +44 and blink-182.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Review from a Rock Band fan, November 6, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: PS3 Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Kit (Accessory)
I choose to get the gh:wt guitar bundle over the bandkit for 2 reasons; 1) I heard the gh: world tour drums were having lots of issues and 2) I already owned Rock Band 1 band kit with guitar, drums, and mic.

Pros:

- Rock Band 1 drums works seemlessly with gh: wt
- Rock Band 1 guitar & mic works seemlessly with gh: wt as well
- Well polished gameplay with a great song list! IMO better than rock band 2 b/c i am not a huge metal rock fan. GHero has more titles like sublime, micheal jackson, eagles, no doubt. A little more mainstream.

Cons:
- I truely dislike how if one band member fails out the whole band fails out. When friends are over just having fun learning a new instrument this is very annoying that you can't "save" them like in rock band.

- I also dislike the way you have to trigger star power on drums( by hitting both center drum pads at the same time) During the middle of a fast paced song on medium or hard this will certainly screw you up and I can almost never pull it off flawlessly) Rock band again gets props for adding short fills and landing the the last note to trigger star power!

- not a huge fan of encores....after playing 4 longs songs i dont want an encore

Overall, feels very similar to rock band with slightly different animations and gameplay with all new songs. Definitely has been working great and a good choice if you like the song list however, if not I would stick with Rock Band 2...especially if you need a drum set.

UPDATE
After having the game for about 2 months along with RockBand 2 now. I'd have to say that time and time again i go back to play RockBand 2 instead of GH:WT. The reason is b/c i usually play when friends come over and we want the ability to play and pick from the most amount of songs. Since RB2 allows you to play all your RB1 songs as well as your RB2 songs it truly has more than twice the number of songs than GH:WT. Not to mention, RB2 has really polished how to search for songs to play...not only by song tile, artist, and difficulty but now you can search for songs by Genre and Decade as well. Makes life very easy when your in the mood to play a paticular song. While GW:WT is a fine game and works as advertised. RockBand2 wins Round 1!!

UPDATE
Also Rock Band 2 has psn trophies to obtain while GH:WT does not!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Guitar Hero Game, October 28, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: PS3 Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Kit (Accessory)
I purchased the guitar pack for this game, because I thought the new features on the controller would be fun. I was right! The controller allows you to try some new techniques that make the game just that much more interesting. I didn't purchase the drums/mic full kit because we tried that with Rock Band and no one in my family really seemed to like those features so much.

As far as the play list, I was delighted to find so much newer music, as well as some amazing classics. Normally we start this game on medium, but it was way too easy on that level (maybe we are just becoming so experienced, lol). On the other hand, when I switched to hard, I was surprised to find how challenging it was, especially with the new controller and added techniques. I love the new guitar battles, which are not really battles at all. It is so much fun to play along with the likes of Ted Nugent and the other guitar gods.

All in all this game continues to amaze me. I note that you can add your own music, but I haven't tried that yet. We are just having way too much fun playing through the 80 or so songs provided with this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Deja Vu", but different..., October 27, 2008
By
P. Webb "Trajedi" (Bozeman, MT United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: PS3 Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Kit (Accessory)
Initially here are the things that strike me about the hardware.
The PS3 guitar despite the necessary DONGLE will not work with old PS2 GH games (GH1&II&80s.etc) on my 60gb nor does it work on my PS2,(bummer but not surprising, considering the upgrades. The guitar and its improvements are noticable immediately however. The length is a nice upgrade, and the new dpad knob is cool after you get the hang of it, also the bigger, clickier strum bar feels great, now when you are dropping notes you can be sure it is you that is to blame, not the hardware or wireless setup. The two start buttons and oversized SELECT button however are at a spot where I on occassion pause by accident triggering the games new 4 sec restart from pause upgrade. The touch pad felt okay at first as a strum bar, but has begun to show crosstalk in the music studio when I play drums with it, also it is way to far up on the neck and can be hard to locate in the heat of play. Other gripes are that I feel like I have nowhere to spend my tour cash in the game as there are no unlockable songs (just new sets) to buy.
I would have rather seen a new harder lever rather than the new BEGINNER mode but this should help even more people get the hang of these games.
I also miss the tour for each level of difficulty, now when you finish a song on any setting its finished even if you switch difficulties. The customization, along with alot of the details here really feel lifted from RB, but the customization is also fairly limited as the FACE really doesn't change much. Instrument customization is terrific however with every aspect fret board, inlay, pickups adjustable. The music selection is very eclectic with a few too many modern bands for my taste but there are many, many choice tracks, inlcuding the TOOL level which is the most amazing 3 song set yet in a RHYTHM game with Alex Grey inspired art as a stage and no musicians insight. The music studio features a nice set of tutorials to lead you into making your own GH tracks, and overall is fairly deep with 2 methods of making recordings(mixer/studio) and alot of effects for the instrument(s), with more unlockable through codes. The guitar makes a surprisingly good controller for navigating the music studio and the touch pad is promising as a music creation tool, but feels a little imprecise as a drumpad, During gameplay the touchpad requires a light touch as well to avoid crosstalk between notes when tapping, and a nice light touch when sliding over the new see-through notes (which remind me of GITAROO MAN but more hands on). On the hard levels the touch pad is almost impossible to reach at times however (Zak Wylde duel). Overall, it is hard to complain about a song list this huge, the ability to record your own tunes, a bass career, and a guitar with this many improvements. I do however miss some of the old features like a locally available HIGH SCORES table, not just online & not just by song. The career sets feel packed together but you can quit through the pause menu and still play one song at a time, or build your own sets of any length. I was hoping for 1080p graphics, but this is yet another 720p PS3 game. Online, drums, vocals are NOT REVIEWED here.
This is my initial reaction to the single player guitar bundle for offline play only, and I thought it might help some of you make a rhythm game buying decision. Also see line6.com/gh for the extra guitar effects that are unlockable in the studio.
