4.0 out of 5 stars A Stunning Collection of Guitar Instrumentals,
This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)I have been a long-time fan of solo guitar music: John Fahey, Michael Hedges, Adrian Legg, Preston Reed, Robbie Basho, but Leo Kottke is my favorite. From 1969's "6- And 12-String Guitar" to 1999's "One Guitar, No Vocals," Kottke has released a series of stunning guitar albums. "Guitar Music" was his third all-instrumental outting. I first bought this on LP in 1981, and just now picked it up on CD for a low price from Amazon.com's Bargain Music Dept. Kottke's playing, as always, is spectacular. Whether it's his slide playing on "Part Two," the fingerpicking on the gorgeous "Side One Suite," or the haunting arrangement of "Sleep Walk," Kottke is a master guitar player. All of Kottke's albums are terrific and this is one of his best. RECOMMENDED

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not hesitate to buy this CD.,

This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)I have to say that of the 15 or so Kottke recordings I have that I enjoy this one the most, and remains that way 19 years after I purchased it in 1980. For better or worse, there are no geese farts on this one. (Kottke once described his voice as "geese farts on a muggy day.") The original compositions are all exquisite, engaging, and often very deep and moving. The covers (tumbling tumbleweeds, sleepwalk, and all I have to do is dream) are made into originals, if I can put it that way. The playing is stellar--emotional, complicated, dense, and sentimental. The recording quality is very good. If you're new to Kottke, start here. If you've got other Kottke and want more, this has to be next on your list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly Kottke at his best.,

This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)Not too mellow; not too upbeat. Clean and crisp instrumental guitar work. The "Side One Suite" can breathe life back into a weary soul. Simply beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily Acquired Taste,
This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)This is a re-mastered cd from a vinyl press nearly thirty years ago. I wore out my record. Classic Kottke, with some of his own compositions.
A good introduction to a genuine American treasure. Kottke has few peers in the history of solo guitar. This is one of his five best albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorius Guitar Work,
This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)I first heard this CD in 1983. The music moved me deeply, and still does. These songs stay in my mind for hours after I've heard them. Leo has total control of his guitar, using dynamics and beautiful composition to the nth degree. A no-brainer; BUY IT!
5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to find,
This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)If you would like to just sit back, relax and enjoy some beautiful music, than you need to buy this CD. We saw him live and his music will live in my heart forever.
4.0 out of 5 stars Up there with 6 & 12 String Guitar - very very good,
This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)I am a bit of fan of Mr Kottke - ever since hearing 6 & 12 String Guitar way back when. Have a few other albums of his and have even seen him perform when he has visited Australia. Impressive stuff. Haven't bought anything of his for quite some time and stumbled across this one on Amazon - saw the good reviews and bought it. Dont know how I did not know about it - maybe it was never originally released in Australia. Anyway this is what Leo does best - tasty, clever and stylish playing. This album perhaps doesnt have the fire and energy of 6 & 12 String Guitar but in some ways it is the better for it - a bit more mellow and rounded. To be honest its a four and half star album but you cant do that on the rating sytem. If you have other albums by Leo Kottke you will be sure to enjoy this - well worth it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar,
This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)This album stands next to "6 and 12 String" as Leo's best. It's pure guitar music, played on an older Gibson model six string and Martin 12 string. It's a guitarist's delight to listen to - upbeat and fun. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure Kottke.,
This review is from: Guitar Music (Audio CD)Even if "Guitar Music" isn't Kottke's Opus one in ingenuity, he newer fails to leave one breathless with admiration.
Kottke is the masters mentor when it comes to playing the lute but I miss his raspy vocals.
