Obviously, the licks can be pretty much used for extending the solo which is near the ending of 'Stairway to Heaven'. However, these licks are pretty much diverse enough to play with other harmonies but not always in session. The licks are tasteful and has a bit of a hook established within them. The instruction is adequate. Good for immediate to advance. The instructor is clear and is able to articulate the lessons. He gives a plethora of ideas to choose from.

I really enjoyed learning from this DVD. No tabs come with it, but Danny Gill does a great job going note for note so it is easy to understand. It also starts out a little easier and each new solo adds another Jimmy Page sound until he puts it all together in a last solo. I have been playing for 5 years now and I had a great time playing along. It gave me some good ideas for my own solos. I would, and have, recommended this DVD to friends.

Gill is a good instructor and he has this interview videos (that used to be linked into Amazon's product description) that describe the videos and his goals. He is full of energy and focused so after seeing the "trailer" for the instructional video I was jazzed about getting it.
The video itself is somewhat dry and he's just the facts. What?! This video could have been so much better given Gill's talents. I don't know why they buttoned him up. The content does what it implies. You get a basketful of Jimmy Page licks. You have to understand what key they are in to make them your own but most players understand that. If you don't then you can just rattle off some sweet licks and impress your friends while warming up. There is no tab so you have to pay attention / write your own or find them off the internet. Its not a 5 star because of the director's decision to record this so flat. But its certainly well done and not a 2 star. I decided on 4 instead of 3 because of the no nonsense approach that works. |
