My favorite CD without lyrics,
By A Customer
This review is from: Guitar Sampler (Audio CD)
A good friend of mine made a taped recording of this CD for a long drive up the coast. Once it was in my player I didn't remove it all the way from Washington to California. Now I own the CD myself and make sure any of my friends who love soothing music hear it.

May be Windham Hill's best guitar sampler,

Almost everything here is above average, and the dreamy, moody feel to the album will ensure repeated listenings."Prelude from the bridal suite" is outstanding."No city lights" by James Gordon captures a palpable sense of foreboding and loneliness."The handing down" has a soft, alluring melancholy."Cheyene" is o.k as is "Night Crossing".Classical composer Andrew York makes an appearence with a good piece in "Andecy".The best tune of the disc may be "The silver plume waltz" by Bill Mize.It has a sly tenderness that is undeniable. This is a compilation with great attention paid to atmosphere. It is an album for reflection, meditation or just listening to top notch compositions played with consummate skill. This sampler came out in 1988.I came across it in 1998, and I still pull it out every few weeks and give it another listen.Highly recommended.

I am a big fan of solo guitar recordings and study the artform myself. This recording literally sets the standard for all other samplers & compilations I have bought since my purchase of this recording over 10 years ago. Beautiful arrangements and OUTSTANDING recording quality! You will be pleased with this purchase...

I bought this title shortly after its release in 1988. I still listen to it today. Enough said.

One of the best samplers by Windham Hill,
By
This review is from: Guitar Sampler (Audio CD)
All of the tracks on this album are simply magnificent, as evidenced by the previous reviewers. This album introduced me to some of the best guitar players out there, such as Bill Mize and Andrew York; their pieces on this album ("Silverplume Waltz" and "Andecy") are kings among equals here. My favourite track though is a choice between "No City Lights" and "The Hanging Down".
If you collect new age instrumental music, then your collection isn't complete if you don't have this album. I highly recommend it.

OUTSTANDING!,

This is my most favorite selection of my 27 CD collection of Windham Hill titles. Soothing melodic tracks of beautiful guitar. Music was perfect for my 2,300 mile drive up the Alaskan-Canadian Highway to Valdez, Alaska.

Very Good Solo Guitar,

A good C.D. over all, but "The Emperor's Choice" By Chis Proctor, and "The prelude from the Bridal suite" by Eric Tingstad, are 1 st. Rate.

A Moving Album of Guitar Works,
By
This review is from: Guitar Sampler (Audio CD)
The Guitar Sampler contains some of the best guitar solo music in the world. Starting with On My Way, a moving and truimphant song, to No City Lights with it's cool rythems. This album is the one to buy if you like good smooth guitar music from an accoustic guitar.

I've owned this for 10 years and have enjoyed it immensely. The selections are very lovely. I could (and have) listened to Sun and Water over and over, again and again.

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES,

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUM. I LISTEN TO ALL KINDS OF MUSIC FROM HEAVY METAL TO NEW AGE MUSIC AND THIS IS IN MY TOP FIVE. THE MUSICIANSHIP IS OUTSTANDING. THE MELLOW TONES AND SOOTHING RYTHEMS ARE SPECTACULAR. SUN AND WATER IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE ON THE ALBUM. I'VE BOUGHT THIS ALBUM THREE TIMES SINCE 1984 WHEN IT CAME OUT AND SOMETHING WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN TO IT. I WAS AFRAID THAT I WOULDN'T EVER HEAR IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF STOCK. BUT HERE IT IS! AND NOW I WILL OWN IT FOR THE FOURTH. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THIS COPY, I'M SURE I WILL BUY IT AGAIN. BUT IF YOUR A FAN OF ACOUSTIC GUITAR(THERE ARE A FEW ELECTIC TOO), THIS IS THE ALBUM FOR YOU.
