Book Description

March 10, 2001
This beginner's guide to learning to play the guitar features bite-size, easy-to-understand lessons that will help you progress quickly! It covers all open major, minor and seventh chords and scales. Chord construction theory, tablature, note reading and scale applications are all presented in very easy-to- comprehend style. The concepts are arranged systematically, but the lessons appear in a staggered fashion, so that the student isn't forced to absorb too much of any one principle at once.

For added value, your book purchase allows access to the Guitar Shop website featuring downloadable backing tracks; additional diagrams and photos; e-mail support and more! This book is designed to lay flat for ease of use! If you want to learn to play the guitar from scratch, or teach a beginner how to play, this is the book you need. A checklist at the back of the book tracks the student's progress. Great for beginners and guitar teachers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn Fast and thoroughly, May 23, 2001

This review is from: Guitar Shop : A Beginner's Guide to Learning Lead and Rhythm Guitar (Spiral-bound)
Watson does a good job at explaining the theory behind the material in a manner that's easy to understand. I was surprised at how much ground was covered quickly and how in-depth the information was. Kudos to the author for inventing such a clever system. I learned the chromatic scale and every note name on the fretboard before I had the book a week and did not feel at all overwhelmed! It's a very user friendly book. If I wanted a friend or family member to learn the guitar, I would recommend this book in a heartbeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than My Teacher, May 19, 2001

This review is from: Guitar Shop : A Beginner's Guide to Learning Lead and Rhythm Guitar (Spiral-bound)
Guitar Shop makes the complex simple. After 8 months with a teacher I only learned a few simple "kiddie" songs and how to read notes on a few of the strings. One month with this book and I'm playing songs! What more can I say about that? If you're a beginner, this book is the best one for you.
