This review is from: Guitar Solo Jazz Standards (Paperback)
I was really excited for this book, as it was advertised on the back of my favorite Jazz guitar book.
Unfortunately, the nature of the songs in this book is that they aren't very enjoyable or nice sounding to play alone. The songs in this book are more big-band jazz. There are some nice titles, but figuring that this book clearly states: Guitar SOLO, it is lacking. If you are a beginner guitarist, this *might* be interesting, but even then the songs just aren't very enjoyable. This was a very disappointing buy. If you are looking for a great, fun, beautiful sounding, and more difficult book(but it feels sooo smoooth to play these songs), I highly recommend the OTHER Guitar Solo book: Guitar Solos Great Standards by Jerry Silverman. I hope this helps, and if anyone reading this knows any books similar to the one I recommended, I would *LOVE* it if you let me know in the comment box below! Thanks~ UPDATE*** Although this book isn't as good as the other book I recommended, I decided to give it another try, and some of the songs are rather pretty and relaxing to play. Of course there isn't that fun pull-off, hammer-on, harmonic thing going on with this book very much...but they are pretty songs after all. For the price, 'Round Midnight, Solitude, and Stardust aren't half-bad sounding, and decent on the fun-scale. I would say for what you get, it is worth the price. It is a lot better than what you will get on those tab/sheet music sites *shudder* |
