5.0 out of 5 stars Raul Jose's Review, May 31, 2001

This review is from: The Guitar Works of Garoto (Audio CD)
Garoto is a Brazilian legend and phenomenon. Paolo Bellinati is a first class guitarist and musician. The CD pairs the two and the result is pure magic. Not only is the CD entertaining and impressive, it provides a much needed service by promoting Garoto's music. Absolutely first class!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ressurection of a major Brazilian composer and guitarist., May 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Guitar Works (Audio CD)
This was an extensive research by Bellinati, listening to recordings, interviewing different friends of Garoto, and searching for lost manuscripts. The result is an incredible CD, with pieces in such a different style, from Bossa Nova to Choro, from pure Classical compositions to Technique innovations, that we end by asking ourselves: why listening to anything else?

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding work, May 5, 2005

This review is from: Guitar Works of Garoto (Audio CD)
Bellinati does a wonderful job in bringing forward the music of Annibal Augusto Sardinha ("Garoto"). Garoto is not well known outside of Brazil, but Bellinati's work certainly gives this brilliant composer his due. Garoto's style is well founded in Brazilian choro traditions, and you can hear the influences of his work in later composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and the whole "bossa nova" movement.

Bellinati's technique is superb, and this CD is a joy to listen to.

For guitar players, Bellinati has also come out with a two volume set of transcriptions (from Guitar Solo Publications) that are also outstanding, and a nice addition to the CD.

For those who like Brazilian solo guitar, this work will stand out among even the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars on of the best CDs of Brazilian guitar, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Guitar Works of Garoto (Audio CD)
I am a guitar player, and as a big fan of Brazilian music I have many different CDs. This one is definitely in my top 3. With this CD, Bellinati has reached the top of his art. This CD made me discover Garoto, one of the greatest Brazilian composers.

For musicians, transcriptions of all compositions are available (need to be purchased separately), which is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brazilian Popular Guitar Made Classic, June 21, 2004
This review is from: The Guitar Works of Garoto (Audio CD)
This CD is a result of years of research by Bellinati, who tried to reproduce the way Garoto really played. But (whoever knew Garoto knows that) Bellinati plays him even better, transforming early popular Brazilian music for guitar in classic and universal music. Poor and nice guitar sound. I have given the CD more than once as a gift, and everybody loved it.
