Book Description

January 1, 2005
Almost every guitarist knows the guitar companies Fender and G&L. Both these companies grew from the successful friendship and business partnership of George Fullerton and Leo Fender. George tells, in his own words, the amazing story of his celebrated collaboration with Leo that, for over 50 years, produced some of the world's most popular and treasured guitars and amplifiers, including the Telecaster, P-Bass and the Stratocaster. This complete history of the Fender organization and the G&L Guitar company, reveals through rare pictures and first-hand accounts, an insider's view of this amazing success story and the friendship that survived for a lifetime. Includes a 16-page color section featuring George's rare guitars and prototypes. George Fullerton lives in Fullerton, California.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good reading for G&L and Fender fans, November 8, 2007

This review is from: Guitars from George & Leo: How Leo Fender and I Built G&L Guitars (Paperback)
Well written book detailing the early days of Fender and the factors leading to the inception and later sale of G & L. Since the book was written by George Fullerton, it MAY be a little self-serving re: George's role in these events, but because George was a close associate of Leo's it provides interesting insights into critical events in the history of both companies.

Good photos and a lot of useful information for both Fender and G & L fans.

For a more in-depth and unbiased history of Fender, read Tony Bacon's book "The Fender Electric Guitar Book".

3.0 out of 5 stars For G & L Freaks Only, December 2, 2007

I play bass, G & L's mostly so this was a good read for me. There was more info on guitar which I skimmed through. The bass stuff and the history was very good but not great. I could very well sell my copy used.

2.0 out of 5 stars This was not good, December 29, 2008

George Fullerton is a great man and did much for the guitar community but I did not like this book. The pictures were almost all black and white yet some of the captions referred to finishes, etc and in my opinion needed to be in color. There was even a color chart in there in black and white. There were very few color pictures. The book was written for those on about a 6th grade reading level. There was almost zero detail. Very broad strokes. If you can find this book used for around 3[..] then I would say go for it otherwise you can probably get more information on GandL from Wikepedia. Seriously, this is one of those books that I could not wait to finish... because I didn't want to read it anymore.
