I bought this book as I was building acoustic guitars for fun and wanted to know the specific history of Martin's as they are copied by many people when it comes to lutherie. What I love about this book is that it tells interesting details about the factory along with what dates and why many building techniques were changed, such as x-bracing and bridge plate placement. It also talks about when the factory moved, glue types and more,

It also got me really interested in Vintage guitars as it adds even more mystique to the Martin legend. A dangerous buy if you have any GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) tendencies.

Highly recommended!

Fantastic book! Whereas Book 1 was a history of the company, Book 2 is the perfect follow up by describing Martin products in great detail, often cross referencing to Book 1. Of particular value is the complete listing of serial numbers, models, and manufacturing quantities. Beautifully illustrated. Highly recommended book for those who have owned and appreciated Martins for years as well as those who are planning on buying one - as a matter of fact, I suggest reading this book before buying so you will get the model you really want. You won't find all the models listed in one place as they are here; even much better than the Martin web site. The serial number, model numbers, production totals, etc. are extremely accurate and up to date (some end in 2005 while others end in 2007). How did Martin keep their necks from warping before going to truss rods (there were several methods)? When did they first go to truss rods and with what model? Just a couple of examples of the information you'll learn from this book. You won't regret buying this book, whether or not you own book 1!

I bought 2 Martin books which is book 1 and book 2 in black and red hardcover. These two books contain a huge information with history of Martin guitar where details of some rare models are illustrated. They such a good reference books either you are or are not Martin fan should have on your shelf. I recommend anybody who are making decision to buy Martin book these are brilliant. I am sure you will appreciate if these two Martin books were keeped in your collection. Finally, just want to say "I really love these Martin books".

I wish the book had dealt a little more with the construction and the impact it makes on the sounds of the guitars. I would've appreciated a little more insight to the quality of the old guitars and how they have stood up over time. I saw no comments about the sound of the guitars which I'm interested in.

Unfortunately this book is falling apart and has been hardly used. That is very disappointing because I would hate to have to buy another one to put in my library. It would be interesting to note of the book carries some type of warranty.
