5.0 out of 5 stars Tragic, outstanding; read this book, May 12, 2011
This review is from: Gulag Voices: An Anthology (Annals of Communism Series) (Hardcover)
This book contains the writings of 13 Gulag surivivors, their accounts ordered to convey the progressive stages of that horror, from interrogation to privation to liberation. The varied tales are harrowing, and in concert give voice to the voiceless despair of that appalling system. All should read this work, which is outstandingly edited by the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and journalist Anne Applebaum.
