Book Description:

"Gulistan ("The Rose Garden") is a landmark literary work in Persian literature. Written in 1259 [AD], it is one of two magnum opera of the Persian poet Saadi, considered one of the best medieval Persian poets. The Gulistan is a collection of poems and stories, just as a rose-garden is a collection of roses. It is widely quoted as a source of wisdom." (Quote from wikipedia.org)

About the Author

About the Author:

"Sheikh Sa'di (Muslih-ud-Din Mushrif-ibn-Abdullah) (1184 - 1283/1291?) is one of the major Persian poets of the medieval period. He is recognized not only for the quality of his writing, but also for the depth of his social thought. A native of Shiraz, Persia, Shiekh Saadi left his native town at a young age for Baghdad to study Arabic literature and Islamic sciences at Al-Nizamiyya of Baghdad (1195-1226)." 1.0 out of 5 stars Not Arnold's translation, October 27, 2009
This review is from: The Gulistan of Sa'di (Forgotten Books) (Paperback)
This edition of the Gulistan indicates the translator is Edwin Arnold. The actual translator of this edition published by Forgotten book is Edward Rehatsek. Nice attention to detail on that, Forgotten Books. One star for laziness.

Rehatsek's translation, however, is the best of those that fall within the public domain.
