2.0 out of 5 stars disapointed, August 11, 2007
This review is from: The Gullah People of Sandy Island: A Tribute to the Gullah People of Sandy Island, S.C. (Paperback)
I don't think this book was read or looked over by an editor. The author repeats himself frequently on points already established early on. Didn't learn as much about the people as I thought I would. Learned a lot about the author's opinion of today's youth and what is lacking with their upbringing compared to the Gullah youth and traditions. Would have liked to have seen more detail about the Gullah's history...their early years in America and on the island...why were they so good at producing rice?...their obstacles to living on a primitive island...details about families, then and now... personal stories of living there...way of life... weather...wildlife etc. After reading this book, I still have many unanswered questions.
