PreSchool-Grade 2 --Gumboot is in pig heaven when his aunt gives him a big chocolate bar. Much of the rest of the day is taken up with determining just how and when he's going to devour his treat. Riding his bike to the park, he is briefly diverted by watching some ducks. He wonders whether they like chocolate until a little girl convinces him to join her feeding them bread crumbs instead. The pudgy pink protagonist inadvertently tosses them his last piece of candy and is amazed, and enormously relieved, when one of the feathered divers returns it to him. "What a happy thing chocolate is," is Gumboot's parting reflection. The soft watercolors are dear, but not distinguished, and the negligible story line and saccharine sentiment is too cloying even for a little pig.-Luann Toth, School Library Journal
