5.0 out of 5 stars My 12 year old loves this game! August 31, 2005
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is the best gameboy game I've ever seen. My 12 year old son and all of his friends have been playing it non stop for the last couple of days. The hardest part for them is finishing the last "book" level #5. It keeps them coming back. I love the game too. The graphics are much more 3-d looking and colorful than any gameboy game I've ever seen. It's a classic Gumby adventure where I get to move Gumby through the Old West book level where Richochet Pete chases Gumby through a really cool mine cart chase similar to Indana Jones. The Africa level and Arctic level's are really fun too. I love being able to morph Gumby into a ball that can jump from wall to wall, sticking his way up an otherwise impassable climb. My son and I still haven't finished the Planet Astrobot level, but I'm glad it's challenging. He likes to go back to the other four levels and do them over a lot. It feels like a classic clay animation adventure, but better, because we can be Gumby. We love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth getting if you're a Gumby fan. August 27, 2005
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Several months ago, I was very excited to hear that a Gumby video game was being made for Gameboy Advance. Well, I've bought the game, and unfortunately it's not a great as I expected it to be. If you're a Gumby fan, though, it may be worth picking up.

Here's the story. Professor Kapp has devised a remote control to allow him to control the Astrobots. The Blockheads steal the remote control and use the Astrobots to disturb a picnic that Gumby is having with his family and friends. They all scatter into different books to escape, and the Astrobots follow. Gumby must rescue his friends from each book, and also stop the Astrobots.

This game is a side-scrolling platformer. The main way Gumby defeats the Astrobots is to jump on their head (like Mario). As you progress through the game, Gumby learns abilities like morphing into a ball and double-jump. You can play a couple of levels as Pokey, and a single level as Goo.

First off, the good stuff. The graphics are great for this type of game, with good likenesses of all the Gumby characters. The sound is very good as well, with a lot of the sound effects pulled straight from the show. And the original theme song plays over the title screen! Finally, the price. If you look around, you can buy this game new for less than $15!

Now the bad stuff. This game is short, and can be completed in just a couple of hours. It's also quite easy, even on the hard difficulty (this may be a plus for young players). There are ice cream cones scattered throughout each level to collect, but it doesn't appear that you get any reward for finding them all.

As a Gumby fan, I also have a couple of nitpicks. One has to do with Gumby's movement - he walks through the levels instead of doing his trademark slide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a portal to Gumby world September 16, 2005

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I love this game-- for the first time, one can now actually interact with a Gumby cartoon! :-) And what I like about it is that you can set the level of difficulty to match your own skill level, so that you can really have some fun with this game. You get to hear the classic Gumby theme, the background music is interesting, and the sound effects seem to be carefully researched to be authentic to the show. All of Gumby's friends are included. Six levels that explore six books in the nursery: my favorite is a trip through Transylvania in the novel DRACULA. And, of course, the SAFARI through Africa.

This game is the best of both Gumby worlds-- a wonderful toy and a great cartoon show. I would like to see another Gumby Gameboy cartridge now-- one where he gets to have adventures in the toyshop itself.

As an adult who loves to play gameboy games I found this game very easy to play. I beat it in just a short while. It is fun.. just very easy even when I put it on the harder settings. So though it isnt very challenging it is fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind of a joke but fun for kids September 27, 2013

I love Gumby. I grew up watching him. I had toys of him. Now they made a Gumby game finally aaaaand.... it's "okay". The difficulty level is ridiculously easy even on hard. I get this game is marketed towards kids but come on adults play games too. I didn't get a "high production value" feel from it but that's alright. It was made for me. As a game for kids, I think it is okay. Too easy for me, but might be just right for smaller gamers.
