Let me first say that I'm a big fan of the Otterbox cases for electronic devices. I've got a few of them and when I purchased the Amazon Fire, I thought that Otterbox would have a case for it and I would certainly purchase it. Case closed, end of story, ( yes, pun intended ---- sorry ) or so I thought.
Well, as many of you probably know, Otterbox doesn't make a case for the Fire, nor, as far as I know, do they plan to. ( I wonder why )
So I checked out many of the cases available for the Amazon Fire both online and at local stores but couldn't find one that I was happy with.
Then I came across a post on the internet regarding cases and the Gumdrop line of cases was mentioned and given very good reviews. Plus, they had one for the Fire! I checked their website and sure enough, there it was.
It looked good. Sturdy, thick rubberized material around the edges and it came with a " plastic (?) " built in screen cover.
I ordered it and I'm glad I did.
The case is great! I have no fear of dropping the Kindle while it's protected by this case. It's extremely well made and the grooves around the entire case make holding it very secure. It won't slip out of your hand.
I'd certainly recommend this case to anyone looking for top-notch protection of their Kindle Fire. I would even go so far as to say that it's in the same league as the famous Otterbox line of cases.
I do feel however that the $50.00 price tag for the case is a little too high. Forty dollars or so would probably make this case
a better seller. Also, although the all black is nice, a small touch of color ( maybe a stripe around the border ) would add to it's beauty.
Again though, all in all, this case is a winner ----hands down! Michael K.

UPDATE --- one hour later.
I just checked the Gumdrop website and see that they now offer the case in green or blue too.
It does however say that those colors are back-ordered until March 2012

If you want to protect your Kindle Fire, this is a must buy. I am going to list the pros and cons of the case and you decide if it is worth buying:

Pros:
1)Great fit for Kindle Fire, perfect size
2)Silicone makes it easy to hold on to Kindle Fire
3)The built in screen protector protects it from getting scratched
4)The case is very well built, very durable
5)The case looks awesome on the Kindle Fire (wish they had more color)

Con:
1)The price; $50 dollars is a lot of money for average consumers to spend on a case

Overall, the pros outweigh the con. Yes, it may be an expensive case, but this case is worth every penny if you really want to protect your Kindle Fire. Thank you for reading my review and hope it helps you decide if its is indeed worth investing

Today I left my Kindle Fire on the roof of the car and drove off completely forgetting it was up there. At somewhere between 35 and 40 mph my heart sank as I heard it thunk across the roof and eventually fall to the road behind me. I was certain that my brand new and most favorite toy was gone forever. Shockingly though my kindle is as perfect as ever. My case has one small knick on the corner, but other than that, Kindle and case are as good as new. This case is worth every penny.

This case fits the Fire perfectly. It was exactly what I was looking for. A strong durable case for extra abuse from kids. I like the extra plastic layer that is replaceable for the screen. My 2 year old daughter can easily hold it due to the rubber molding on the sides and back.

Audio comes out fine, dont know if the rubber hinge for the USB charging will last long but we shall see

Only downside is the cost is a bit much $50.00. The $30.00 range would have been more comfortable based upon the total fire cost of $200 only reason it lost 1 star. The product is great.

I really wanted to love this case. I couldn't wait for it to get here after a 3 week backorder.

I put it on with no problem but the screen cover gave me the impression the screen was greasy or there was a sort of film I didn't remove from it.

The rubber is very nice and durable but it attracts lint, dust and every single hair within range of it. Not awesome if you have pets.

The biggest problem is the Kindle Fire produces a fair amount of heat on the back. The rubber of the case is almost exclusively around the back of the Kindle. There is really no way for it to vent at all. I noticed I was having to plug in to charge for every 45 minutes of use when normally I can get at least a few hours of running apps before a charge.

The only plus was that my son dropped the Kindle on my kitchen floor and the case saved it from damage. But I still had to take it back off before it killed my Kindle.

I wanted a case that would protect my fire while it was in my purse and from my 11 year old who tends to be rough with most anything. I didn't like the appearance in the picture much but opted for real protection over aesthetics. Another concern I had at first was having smaller hands I found the Fire to get heavy and also a bit awkward to hold and swipe pages with one hand. I thought the bigger case would just make it even heavier and more difficult to turn pages. I had considered the Marsware leather cover for the strap to help with page turning but wanted something a little more casual and sturdier. When I got this one and put it on I didn't notice the additional weight and surprisingly it was easier to hold and turn pages on. The ridges that look like tire tread actually make it more comfortable to hold because your fingers don't slip so you can loosen and relax them and any position your holding it. Nice when your holding it for hours on end.

The other thing I love is the screen saver. I always have such a hard time getting screen savers on without bubbles. I bought one for $25 with my Fire that I threw away when I couldn't get it on right. This one is ridged so it's not an issue. That right there would have paid for 1/2 the price of this cover. And the screen saver piece is replaceable.

Additionally it's very well made and very sturdy. Over all I can't say enough good about it.
