5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Training Book for Pointing Dogs June 19, 2014
Of all 7 pointing dog training books I own, this is by far the best, most detailed and intelligently written. I had no idea how to train my first GSP and no one to teach me. With this book as my guide, I trained three female GSP to the following titles: 3 AKC Master Hunters, 1 NAVHDA Utility Prize II, 2 NAVHDA Utility Prize I and 1 NAVHDA Versatile Champion, without any help from my husband, who wasn't interested in training dogs. No harsh corrections were ever necessary, both due to the training techniques and the nature of the dogs involved. My Roebuck book was highlighted, underlined, written in the margins and read and reread many times to insure I followed the directions exactly as they were written. Needless to say, I am happy with the results.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book to learn how to train your pointing breed April 26, 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
There's a fair bit on breed and characteristics. Some of it gets a little dry if you're not interesting in that sort of thing. But overall, it's a fairly decent book that gives some great tips and advice for any hunter that wants to train his new dog, or someone that's never had a pointing breed and wants to consider maybe getting one for their hunting needs.

I have a Brittany and he's been amazing. This book has really helped me understand his needs and personalities and best methods to approach his training. After reading this book, I felt pretty confident in my ability to teach and train my dog for hunting, and I was surprised at just how intelligent these pointing breeds actually are. Most of it is instinct, but I did have to work with my Brittany a bit to get him to retrieve well. I guess they're not really retrievers but he does it great! I can't speak about any other breed of pointing dogs out there... but my Brit is definitely an amazing pointer, flusher, and retriever. He does it all!

5.0 out of 5 stars easy sensible read January 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Got this for our GSP pup- she's 6 months now and wish I would have bought it before we brought her home. Very good advice that isn't rocket science but really makes you train deliberatly to get the best out of your pup.
