5.0 out of 5 stars 1 For The Treble, 2 For The Bass, 3 For The Melted Faaaacccceeeeeee, May 2, 2010
This review is from: The Gun Show (MP3 Download)
Heath's last at bat "The Heath McNease Fan Club Meets Tonight" has scarecly left my earshot since i first heard it. This is an album i've anxiously awaited, and it was far worth the wait. This album proves you don't have to sell hype, have a demigod label, or insane amounts of money to make outstanding music. With lyrical content, unprecidented composition, and unmatched flow, "The Gun Show" is the hip hop album you didn't see coming, and the one you've been waiting for that you didn't know about. Not only does Heath take his newest album to new levels lyrically, but the sheer quality of music has gained such variety and style that it makes you take a step back and appreciate what's going on in your ear drums. Heath also brings to the table a "who's who" of rappers that don't have a label barcode stamped to their soul to bring quality to the mic. Tracks featuring "Pigeon John", "Red Cloud", and "Playdough",just make the event all the more epic. Heath's trademark wit and humor break your door in on tracks like "Chalk Outline","Ya'll Aint Vip", and "Gunshow", where as "Pity Party", "Zion", and "Makeshift Doxology", lay the spiritual groundwork. Tracks like the amazing "Space Cowboy", "Common Cold", and "Rockbox" just make you stand back and marvel at the sheer flow and skill that come from this Georgia rapper. Adding to the flavor is the absolutley haunting "I will live" that melodic track literally makes me lose myself in thoughts and a wave of emotion. At the same time Heath mans up on his nerd/pop culture cred. He manages to squeeze in multiple classic snl references, power rangers, lord of the rings, harry potter, twilight, star trek, star wars, comic com, video games, and more into a slew of songs. If you are saying to yourself "i'm not a rap fan", you are lying to yourself, you just need to sit down and enjoy the ride for this album. If you are saying "I'm a real rap fan, why would i come to a skinny guy with an acoustic guitar for hip hop?" the answer is "because it's the smartest choice you can make" there may be humor and poppy sounds mixed into this blend, but believe me, it's one of the most real album's you'll pick up. Buy this album and you won't regret it, if you do regret it, i know the number of a good counselor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album, May 1, 2010

This album shows off what Heath does best, lay down hot tracks and rap about everything from Lord of the Rings to idolatry in the music industry. The Gun Show is hip-hop at its core, but has something for everyone that comes to the table. Heath's put together 17 tracks that will make you laugh, think and in the end challenge you.

It's obvious that in the last 3 years Heath's lyrics have matured and songs like "Common Cold" and "Makeshift Doxology" really make you think. For people who are looking to laugh, songs like "Nerd Out" and "The Gun Show" is the best of the best. Right now there's no MC that can bring pop culture and real life together like Heath. The Gun Show is really the best of what he does and this album really comes across as a labor of love. It's a rare thing to listen to an album for an hour and twelve minutes and get excited that your iPod is on "repeat".

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best Hip Hop out there., May 1, 2010

I've been listening to Heath McNease for a few years now. I randomly picked up his first album (The Heath McNease Club Meets Tonight) at Lifeway Christian Bookstores, and was instantly a fan. I've been waiting for both of these albums for a long time, and the wait has been worth it. Heath has a very unique sound, blending acoustic riffs with hip hop beats. It's something I'm used to because of the first album, but also very vibrant and new. I've listened to the entire album, and I'm enjoying it immensely. If your a fan of either acoustic jams, or hip hop and a little bit of comedy, you've certainly scored a bulls-eye with this kid. My favorites so far are Nerd Out, The Gun Show, and American Idle. Grab this immediately, it deserves to be in your MP3 player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heath McNease delivers - summer roadtrip soundtrack, May 9, 2010

This review is from: The Gun Show (MP3 Download)
The Gun Show features solid rhythmic stylings, strong grooves, and showcases Heath McNease's quirky humor that makes his live performances so captivating, especially in tracks "Nerd Out," "The Gun Show" and "Disco Biscuits." But the light-hearted humor of the CD is balanced with thought provoking tracks such as "Common Cold" and "Pity Party" that are deeply poignant without being preachy. But most importantly, this is a CD to just sit back and enjoy - pop it in the car, crank up the volume, and run on repeat. As one of the stand-out tracks "American, Idle" says "Push the pedal to the flo' ... let's go." The Gun Show will take you there in style.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delicious Verbal Stew, May 8, 2010
This review is from: The Gun Show (MP3 Download)
This album....oh this well planned, carefully composed, seriously comedic album is one that I not only recommend, but insist on everyone purchasing! Worth the money? Please!! It's worth your whole stinkin paycheck!

In this roller coaster of an album, Heath bares his heart, soul, and fists in what can only be described as a brilliant collage of sweet, sweet beats and melodies. Leaps and bounds beyond his first album, "The Heath McNease Fan Club Meets Tonight." Which, by the way, I would also strongly recommend! The maturity, the honesty, the bravery that is engraved in "The Gun Show" will give you goose bumps. This album is in your face without being forceful. It's comedic without being a joke. It's simply the real deal. No mask, no trap doors, no catch. Heath lays it all on the floor for you. You can nod your head and dance along to songs like "Nerd Out" and "The Gun Show." While at the same time, in songs like "Firing Squad" and "Pity Party" you'll find yourself listening so intently to the lyrics that you'll feel like you're living them. Only Heath makes that seem so effortless. So pick it up and stick it in your car stereo and take the ride of your life. Heath McNease will be happy to ride shotgun!

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't break dance, but I do break necks!!!, May 7, 2010
This review is from: The Gun Show (MP3 Download)
The talent this guy possesses is unreal, not to mention the heart and soul he puts into his work. That alone makes it worthy enough to buy. But if you're not convinced, just listen to a few samples. Heath encompasses so many styles yet keeps them all fresh and interesting. Not many artists can do that. On another level, his lyrics are amazing and well put-together. They range from deeply introspective to crazy silly. He never misses a beat and he keeps it coming! And his vocal range? Just listen to the end of "Y'all Ain't VIP". It's unbelievable.

You may not have heard of Heath McNease, but after listening to this CD, you're sure to become part of his rapidly growing fan base. It's so rare to find an artist with this much mass appeal. I can practically guarantee you'll find at least one track on this album that speaks to you. My favorites are "The Gun Show" and "Y'all Ain't VIP" where he brings the kind of tongue-in-cheek humor back to rap music that I haven't heard since the days of Whodini and Biz Markie. And if you don't find that uplifting enough, try listening to "Zion" and "Makeshift Doxology" where he delivers spiritual faith in a real and practical way for everyone dealing with this crazy, mixed-up world. What was that? You mean rap lyrics that aren't full of unwarranted braggadocio and odes to strippers on the pole? It's true, but don't let the freckles and the tube socks fool you, this Southern boy can spit lyrics with such smoothness and dexterity, he just might make "nerding out" the new cool. The bonus track "Nintendo Thumb" is for all you gamers out there looking to find your own anthem. Still not convinced because you only want to rock out? "Firing Squad" and "Common Cold" are just for you! Did you say you don't like rap music at all? Then check out his interludes "Thank You" and "I Will Live" or his other current release, Shine On. Careful though, his folksy brand of laid-back goodness can creep into your heart and melt your very soul.

Okay let me just say that I had this cd on repeat in my car and a girl got in and was like, hey what song is that? She was like I like this song, what radio station is that? I was like, "um honey, this isn't the radio, It's Heath McNease" All I gotta say is this is a fresh fusion of styles that is so needed now when auto tune the likes of "Wack Flacka Flame" are what you hear on the radio all the time. "Nintendo Thumb" is my jam!
