GunVault NV300 NanoVault with Combination Lock

I purchased the Gunvault Nano Vault NV300 to store my handgun in my SUV whenever I have to enter "gun free" zones such as banks, schools, airports, sports arenas or government offices among others. This gun perfectly stores several of my handguns such as an HK USP Compact, Walther P99, Smith and Wesson 642 revolver, Glock 26 and Ruger LCP as well as my spare mag. The safe has a security cable that I have attached to my seat frame so that a thief cannot take the safe with him in case of burglary. Also, the safe is very well constructed, the dials are easy to manipulate despite my large fingers, it is very simple to configure your own password and the cable is long enough to pull the safe from underneath the seat and operate on your lap whenever needed.

This safe was built to hold compact and sub-compact guns so it will probably not hold large handguns such as full size Glocks, M&P's, 1911 and others. If you have a small or medium handgun then this is the right safe for you!!!

This is a very useful lockbox for transporting pistols, in your suitcase or car trunk. It's also somewhat useful for home storage if you don't have a proper safe, and are just looking for something to keep curious children and adults from a gun. I wouldn't think of it as a substitute for a real gun safe, though; the lock isn't strong enough, and could be defeated by a hammer. It's also not a good choice for keeping a pistol at hand if you might need to quickly retrieve it- the combination dial is tiny and hard to read in dim light. But considering the price, it's still a good value for its intended use.

As for the smell that bothers some owners, there's a bit of a naphthalene (mothball) odor, but very little leaks out when the box is shut. Anyway, I suspect that the naphthalene is there for a reason- it's a good rust preventive.

Got this to safely store things in my bedside dresser to prevent unauthorized access by children, guests, etc. keeping small items secure from simple tampering. Would not deter a real thief but that is really not what this is for.

Likes:
-Love the slim size...its all you need. Other products are too bulky. Would fit a handgun perfect, sub-compact or compact, or up to a 4.5" barrel model like a Sig 226.
-Perfect for home (bedside dresser say) or car (will fit under a seat)
-The construction is fairly good, especially for the price.

Ok but not Great:
-Lock is ok but nothing super-great.
-The foam does smell a little but that is not unusual for this kind of foam, I just left mine outside for a few days to air out (best is where there is breeze), and it worked out. Besides, you could always replace it with anything you want.

So I give this 5 starts for size, construction, and especially for value (i paid $19+shipping). At full price i maybe would have dropped to 4 stars on value.

There is NOTHING here in the way of protection that a flat-blade screwdriver and an gentle twist can't remedy. The lock is mostly plastic and easily broken. I will not trust it with my pistol or anyone else's. It's that simple.

At first I was very pleased with this safe.
The knob you need to use to open and close the vault is very hard to turn, but to make it worse the mechanism is plastic made, from the knob all the way inside to the column that turns and rotate the tab into the slot in order to lock the safe.
Needless to say it broke!!! All anyone has to do is use a strong screwdriver from the front just under the knob to break this open with no effort what so ever.
The nv200 is cheaper, and all metal, will not break into so easily.

I have several of these 'safe' boxes, they are great for the car or even airline use. I will not own a safe with only a key entry because who can be fumbling for a key when life is at stake? I admit that this box is pretty easy to break into but that's not the point of it for my use - I have a BIG safe if I am concerned about theft. This HIGHLY PORTABLE safe can be opened fairly quickly without looking for a key, yet young children will not be able to easily access its contents. When you find yourself the car and in a location that you need a safe place for specific items in the car, this locks quickly and can be attached to the car frame when locked. Keep in mind this is a SMALL safe, meant for only sub-compact weapons or small devices. Why FIVE stars? The bottom line is, owning this inexpensive safe keeps me in compliance with my state conceal carry laws.

Also, the initial smell of the padding is atrocious, I left the foam outside for a day in the sun and it does not smell nearly like it did at first.

For the price, this will work great as a gun safe in your car or home. Here are a few observations:

(1) The foam does smell a bit (it's not as bad as others have said...perhaps they changed the foam?), but you can just let it sit outside for a day or two. There is also very little of the foam, so it wouldn't cost much to replace it if it really bothered you.

(2) The lock mechanism can be a bit rough at times. It's merely because the locking portion is sliding in to a slit in the metal...basically, it is metal on metal, which is going to be rough. It's not an issue though. The lock is "no-frills", but seems to work.

(3) I am able to fit 2 Glock 26's in the NV300 safe (it's snug, but they fit)...or one Glock 26 with an extra magazine.

(4) Most people will want to put in the combination and flip the lid away from them (like in the product picture). For some reason, the combination lock is reversed so if you hold it this way the numbers will be upside-down. Depending on the location (bottom drawer, shelf, etc.) this may be a consideration.

This is a great product for traveling when you need to leave your gun (or other valuables) in the car and don't want to rely on your glove box. The price can't be beat!

i am very disappointed with the cheap plastic works of the lock ...
however it proved easy to break into when it would not open.
i used the right combination and turned the knob... had
to pry it open which broke the plastic lock barrel....
two stars because the gunvault people will send a new
lock.... in 3-6 weeks....

This is the second NV300 I have purchased. I plan to purchase more until I have all of my vehicles set up the same way.Excellent secure storage for a weapon or extra travel cash. Make sure that you check the dimensions against the stuff you plan to store.
The exterior finish slides a bit too easily. I had to stick some bathtub tape on the bottom to keep it from sliding out when I hit the brake. Plan ahead, this will never be a "fast draw" item.

I use for car security of valuables and a gun. The numbers on combo pad are a bit difficult to see and the nob to release the latch can be a pain to rotate. Would not be ideal for rapid access, but it works for my needs. Quality construction and slim profile make it easy to conceal and hard to crack into.
