Children will enjoy comforting the beloved Sesame Street character Elmo as he sneezes and sniffles in GUND's Feel Better Elmo toy. Elmo is dressed in his bathrobe and is holding a box of tissues--is Elmo getting sick? Designed for children aged 12 months to 4 years, this interactive toy says five phrases that help preschoolers learn about being sick and what they can do to help others feel better.

GUND

Toy Teaches Children about Being Sick

Elmo wants somebody to hold his hand. Children will empathize with Elmo as he holds his tissue box tight while sneezing and sniffling dramatically. It's no fun being sick, but Elmo doesn't let the sniffles get him down. He tells children he loves them right after letting out an adorable "achoo."

Feel Better Elmo says five phrases designed to help children understand what it means to be sick. Additionally, this toy will bring comfort to children who have already come down with their own case of the sniffles. All children will enjoy pushing Elmo's right foot to hear what he will say next.

Soft Construction Makes for a Cuddly Playmate

Constructed of soft, plush material, Elmo looks supremely cozy in his blue bathrobe. That said, our young testers were frustrated that both the fuzzy bathrobe and tissue box were firmly attached and could not be removed.

Due to its interactive features, this toy should be surface-washed only. Additionally, parents should be aware that the Feel Better Elmo does not have an on/off switch, and there is no way to change the pre-installed battery.

Customer Reviews

Very well made, soft and snuggly which is nice for someone stuck in bed.

Also important; Elmo can't be machine washed, of course, due to the batteries that soon will be useless anyway.

His sneezes and other phrases are clearly heard and sound exactly like the TV Elmo.

We gave our 3-year old this Gund Elmo after a day where he earned all of his gold stars on his rewards chart (something I would have a hard time doing). He loves Elmo, and immediately took him, finding the squeezy-spot to make him speak within seconds. Okay, so our first mistake was giving him Elmo AT bedtime. The next two hours were "aahhh---chooo!" "Elmo would feel better if you hold Elmo's hand" and the other three phrases. Five short phrases (including the sneeze!) wear thin quickly.

But the big news is this, and I capitalize this because it is so important: THERE IS NO WAY TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES WHEN THEY DIE. Elmo will fall silent permanently once the pre-installed batteries wear out. When I looked and found no way to replace them, I went back to the Amazon page, and sure enough, even Gund says it; "parents should be aware that the Feel Better Elmo does not have an on/off switch, and there is no way to change the pre-installed battery."

So here is cute Elmo, who my little boy loves from Sesame Street, and one day fairly soon, he will lose his voice. Not that I love changing batteries on toys, but that is kind of disappointing!

Also important; Elmo can't be machine washed, of course, due to the batteries that soon will be useless anyway. His robe and the tissue box are secured tightly; you can only "surface wash."

The Chinese construction of Elmo isn't bad, really, but why spend $27 or so for what amounts to a temporary version of a doll? I like the idea of my little boy hugging Elmo when he's not feeling well and getting ready for some rest, but as a toy, and even as a stuffed animal, this version of Elmo falls short. I can't really recommend it.

Some people never grow up. I'm one of them. As a child, I learned more from watching Sesame Street than I did from attending school. Elmo was one of my favorite characters. I had no idea that Gund made Sesame Street plush. For years, I've always bought their plush bears, especially those with a Christmas theme. When I see the word "Gund," I think of adorable, high quality, expensive plush. Therefore, I was extremely appreciative when the Amazon Vine Program offered me the Gund Sesame Street Everyday Feel Better Elmo.

Elmo's bright red fur is extremely soft; it reminds me of the Ty Beanie Buddies that were very popular about twelve years ago. (I barely survived the Beanie Baby craze.) Elmo's baby-blue terry cloth robe feels like a genuine robe. He has a round, yellow can of tissue, which looks a bit odd. The doll is easy to operate; simply press the bottom of his right foot. He will speak five different phrases, which are listed on the green card attached to his left hand. The card also says that Elmo is appropriate for children twelve months to four years of age. I think he is appropriate for children of all ages who are very ill. Elmo would cheer me up if I was recovering from surgery.

I was disappointed to learn that Elmo's volume can't be increased. Most importantly, I couldn't find any written directions on how to change his batteries. (I looked all over his body and couldn't find anywhere to put them.) He arrived with three AA batteries already installed. Unfortunately, when they are drained of power, I don't think they can be replaced. Elmo will then lose his appeal as an animated toy. He won't be able to speak anymore and can only be used as a soft, cuddly doll.

This plush Elmo is adorable, but it didn't keep my children's interest. Repeating five phrases is not really interactive. Also, the battery can't be changed. What's with that?

You're feeling miserable; your head seems to weigh more than your body and your cold medicine has the world moving in slow motion around you. A phone call from a friend is appreciated, if it's short. A get well card is nice. But receiving this Elmo, clutching a box of tissues and wrapped in a blue robe is priceless. Squeeze his foot and he delivers a variety of messages in a recorded voice so clear it's amazing. If laughter is the best medicine, then Feel Better Elmo is a new wonder drug. This Elmo is arguably designed for children and will be an instant comfort and consolation for them; no matter if the child is 3 or 83.

I've got a little Elmo fan, so I was very happy to get this toy for him. It's a good sized, plush Elmo that is just right for hugging. He has five phrases that he speaks when pressed.

I like this Elmo a lot, and think that he's a great gift for a sick child. I do, though, take one star away for not being able to turn him off, or change his battery.

Just the right size for a toddler to hold or cuddle. The voice is cute and a comfort to the young ones. The robe is attractive and Elmo is much like the original Sesame Street character.

This adorable little guy with a cold in his nose is the perfect companion for a little one who is also under the weather. His sneezes and other phrases are clearly heard and sound exactly like the TV Elmo. My granddaughters also like to play hospital or pediatrician's office with him as patient. And you've got to love the tiny plush robe. Very cute, lovable toy.
