The action takes place during Gundam's famous One Year War. For Gundam neophytes, there's plenty of cinemas and background info to help get you up to speed. Sadly, controlling your top-of-the-line mech is frustrating because of clumsy controls. While it's easy to pound stationary targets, mobile enemies are disturbingly hard to keep targeted. Also, hand-to-hand combat is both boring and cumbersome.
The graphics, while not spectacular (the explosion effects are cool), do a decent job of rendering large battlefields, and the mechs look similar to their toy counterparts. The full-motion video cutscenes are nice enough to keep die-hards playing, if only to see how the story moves along.
For Gundam fanatics, Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo is a decent time waster that lets you live the war you already love. For everyone else, though, this is a mediocre blaster that shows us that the definitive mech game has yet to arrive on the PS2. --Mark Brooks

The closest you'll ever get to piloting a Gundam,

I got a chance to play this game at the Gundam Invasion Tour. The graphics are nothing short of amazing with the dub cast of the TV series translating. Each level characterizes an episode from Gundam 0079. From the in-colony Gundam activation to the secret Garma attack. Even though you only get to use the RX-78-2 Gundam, you have a variety of options at your disposal. You can use beam cannon, beam saber and Gunhammer. You can also call for support and use your Vulcans. Sometimes the fighting gets a little tough. For instance, trying to take out all the tanks that can transform into jets is no easy task. And trying to take out the Gau in Garma's Fate almost seems impossible. But Im a novice, so what do I know. However, Mobile Suit to Mobile Suit combat is pretty good, even if there is no real strategy to it. And the jets are great allowing you to even fly higher than Gau's. You'll need them since moving around in a Gundam is no easy task. Even if the movement is a little chunky, it still looks very realisitc. The game gives off a certain Rogue Squadron feel to it, which will make you feel a lttle bit use to it.Anyway, until Zeonic Front comes out, this is the best Gundam game ever created! If there is one game to buy for the PS2, this is it! Highly recommended.

A must buy for Gundam fans,

i just got this game and it is Great. The Gameplay is great, and same with the sound(which was taken from the series). the graphics could be better and control is ok, and the Story mode should of been longer(I beat it in 2 days), but the tactics battles make up for it with the ability to play every MS (Mobil suit) in story mode pluse some. It would be better if you know the orignal Gundam series, not Gundam Wing, but even if you don't it's still a great game. If you don't even know Gundam, then toonami has the Gundam series running. Overall i gave it a 5 star for a great game and a must buy for gundam fans.

Never gets Boring!!,

This is the best game I own. I purchased this game looking for a good action game, and I picked the right game. On this game, you start out with the Story Mode, this mode is 9 levels long, but very difficult. Once you have beaten this, Tactics Battle Mode is open for use. This mode is awesome. Even though there are only three levels, you can play as either side. The levels consist of attacking or protecting your base, fighting in a city, and attacking or protecting a GAW Carrier. The more levels you beat with different Mobile Suits, the more Mobile Suits you win. For the Zeon Forces there are about 15 different guys, and with the Federation there are about 10 different guys. Each guy has different weapons, so you can use the one that fits your style. That's not it, once you have won all of these you can view them in your gallery. In the gallery you can get a 360 degree view of it with specifications and information. Also in the gallery you can see previews of all the Gundam movies and you can listen to all the background music used in the game. Those who say the speed is slow are wrong. The loading and playing speeds are fine. Those who say the graphics are bad are also wrong. The graphics are remarkable, and the clips from the show make you feel like you are living the real thing. This is one of the best games out there and is worth the price. Remember, the money you spend on this is keeping America's economy rolling!!
