for the person who was never in Vietnam., August 27, 2010
This review is from: Gunfighter (Vietnam Ground Zero) (Paperback)
i was a grunt with the 9th Marines in 65-66. not many good things have been written, nor are there many good movies, with the exception of the John Wayne movie called the "Green Beret.s" while this was a very typical JW movie, it put a different light on the conflict between good (US) and the bad (VC and the NVA) we were fighting the communists that eventually overcame the very corrupt sitiuation that we came to know as "that war; not a good war, but the only war we had."
the series that was compiled in the name of Eric Helm, represents readings that depict our forces in a much better light than such that was portrayed by the news. not everyone of us Marines, or, the other troops in Vietnam, were bad guys. we just there, for this reason, or that.
so, while these readings are fiction, they do provide information on a subject that most would like to pretend never happened.
it did happen, and that's just history.
you had to be there.
