4.0 out of 5 stars Conquering the Tiger
This is a book on the Kung Fu form known as "Conquering the Tiger" in Chinese. It is a long and beautiful form of the Hung Gar Southern Chinese style of Kung Fu also known as the Tiger/Crane style. Buck Sam Kong is a well known instructor and has many famous students. In this book he demonstrates this key form, often the first form taught of the Hung system. (This is also...

1.0 out of 5 stars as with many books like this, it doesn't have enough pictures to be complete
a good book but it does not show enough pictures or descriptive wording to move you through the whole form. it would be impossible to learn it just from this book. it will show him in one pose and then a completely different one and you have no idea what the transition is or what moves and foot work were in between. this would be a great book for someone who already...

4.0 out of 5 stars Conquering the Tiger, February 28, 2010
This review is from: Gung Gee Fook Fu Kung Fu (Paperback)
This is a book on the Kung Fu form known as "Conquering the Tiger" in Chinese. It is a long and beautiful form of the Hung Gar Southern Chinese style of Kung Fu also known as the Tiger/Crane style. Buck Sam Kong is a well known instructor and has many famous students. In this book he demonstrates this key form, often the first form taught of the Hung system. (This is also one of the first books ever written in English on the form.) Hung movements are fluid and powerful. This form is unusual in that it has sections where you practice only one arm and then flip the moves and do the other arm. Moves include Tiger style actions, butterfly hands, sweeps and snake strikes. Some applications from the form are shown. This is a good reference especially if you are familiar with the style and pretty much a must have if you are interested in Southern style Kung Fu.
The text for this book is in English, Spanish and German. The photos are large and there are some nice historical parts on Lam Sai Wing and Lam Jo, famous Hung teachers.

1.0 out of 5 stars as with many books like this, it doesn't have enough pictures to be complete, September 28, 2011

a good book but it does not show enough pictures or descriptive wording to move you through the whole form. it would be impossible to learn it just from this book. it will show him in one pose and then a completely different one and you have no idea what the transition is or what moves and foot work were in between. this would be a great book for someone who already learned it from this teacher but i had learned it from someone else and it was slightly different and so this book wasn't helpful even though i already knew the form. unless you are a student of his or his method then this book is useless too you.

even the applications at the end do not show enough to really teach you anything.
