5.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile addition to any anime cd library!, November 30, 2004

This review is from: Gungrave O.S.T. Uno: Righthead (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is the first volume for the animated version of Gungrave. If you've played the Playstation game, then you know its soundtrack is a more fast-paced, techno-jazz style fit for such a quick run (emphasis on quick run) first-person shooter. Don't get me wrong - the game's soundtrack is good as well. The soundtrack being reviewed here and now though has more variety of styles. Instrumental jazz, mellow blues, & vocal set the mood for the series' better storytelling. Even if you haven't seen the series yet, most of this cd has a noticeable moody, underworld rhythm to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good album, brings up the emotions from the anime, May 6, 2007

I loved Gungrave the anime, it was poignant, exciting and really got me involved. A major reason for that involvement was the music, all of which is pretty much included on this album. Those of you that appreciate Tsuneo Imahori's work from Trigun, here is another superb showing of his. Everything from the laid back drum and marimba opening "family", to the intense string work from the action scenes like "BG", to the relaxed mandolin work in "prayer to rain" is excellent. I love all but one song, "fearful stereo" which is only played in tiny snippets during the series. Even the song "clue" which is one of only two with significant vocal tracks, works in well after the second listen or so. The other vocal, "when the sunset turns red" from the end of each show, oddly turns Imahori's grating voice into something truly beautiful. Imahori does alot of experimentation with sound combinations. His music is genius, but is not for everyone. Get this album to remind you the series of it or to play for some music with a high variety of emotion. Haven't watched the series yet? Check it out. It is rough, brutal, and emotional and well worth your time. Watch it before you buy the album, the music means alot more when you attach it to characters and events.

If you enjoyed the games and the anime as much as I did then this is a great one to have. Lots of tracks! And there's still the Lefthead O.S.T. to buy!
