Western - Mostly Takes Place in Rugged Texas, July 9, 2011
This review is from: The Gunpointer (Linford Western Library) (Paperback)
Chane and his half-brother, Ward, are having a Western dispute over cattle and a woman.
Who will win the cattle, Chane or Ward? I will not give you the details of the dispute and why they are arguing over the cattle. We go on some adventures while trying to round up the cattle.
The woman's name is Leah. She is too good to wear work pants or do any type of cattle work. She hates Texas; she hates New Mexico. She wants to go to California and live a luxurious life. Will she marry Chane or Ward? She wants the man with the most money.
Who will live and who will die in this rugged land and and through all these rough shootings? You will have to read the book to find out.
Gail. I admire Gail a lot. She wears work pants and rounds up the cattle. She is not afraid to work and she will not sit back and let somebody get hurt. She is my favorite character.
This book starts out in Mexico, up to Texas, and then they go to New Mexico. Rough and rugged. Cattles and shootings.
Though not a five-star Western read, it is not a bad read. It is not one of those books that you just can't wait to get done with. I've had better, but I've also had worse. Recommended for a pretty good Western novel.
(*I do need to give this book credit where credit is due. The storyline idea is worth 5 stars. I only gave the book 3 stars because I felt the story needed more polishing, the characters weren't built up enough, there were certain parts that were too 'long' or 'in depth' that had no significance or value to the book, and the book didn't always flow. But with a little more polishing, cutting out or down certain insignificant parts, building up more important/interesting parts, and building up the characters more, and making the book flow better, it could have been a 5-star book. There were certain parts of the book that I wanted more of or wanted more details, such as Gail. There were other parts that were boring/insignificant that needed to be cut. I just felt the book needed one more once-over. Do not let my 3-star rating keep you from reading this book. Also, there either needed to be a better ending as far as what happened with Gail, or else there needs to be a sequel to find out what happens next with her. I hated to just leave her hanging and not know what was going to happen next in her life. Anyway, pretty good book.)
