Guns Across the Border, is a great read about how the guys at the ATF were letting guns into the hands of the cartels, andputting so many at risk. The author Mike Detty shows his experience and knowledge of the subject matter with a lot detail about how/why the whole thing went down. In particular, one comes away immediately with a bad feeling about how the ATF put Detty in harms way without regard for his safety and what creeps they were to deal with at a business level. Never was there a moment where I was bored or left wanting more.

Every American should read this book to get a feel for how federal law enforcement works, and how they treat patriots who work as informants and witnesses.

Mike Detty for Congress!

I've been following Fast and Furious since David Codrea first mentioned it on Armed American Radio.
This book is a GREAT read and finally completes the picture.

This is not a fairly tale story. If you read the other reviews, they are accurate. However, what I don't understand is how they rate this book 3 stars or lower. When you get into this book you knowingly are entering the illegal world of gun running.Mike did not want to be a gun trafficker, the US governement pushed him to do it! They promised moeny and protection for his family. He was left to dry and coudl've bee killed many times, but he went on becasue he thought he was helping his country. I don't like foul language, but such is the beast of adult literature. The main point here is don't trust any agency!

I went to High School with Mike. It's amazing to read a story like this about somebody you know. Our High School(Upper Merion) was made famous by the book "Echoes in the Darkness" It takes steel ones to be abel to sit in a room with Drug Cartel people and do what he did. Great story about how some parts of the Govt can mess things up.

Every Federal Firearms License holder and second amendment activist should read this book.

Guns Across the Border, The Inside Story more than meets the expectations prompted by the title. It is an intensely personal insider look at what happened in the "Wide Receiver" gunrunning investigation that was the predecessor to the Fast and Furious scandal. I met Mike Detty at the 2014 Shot Show in Las Vegas. He struck me as a quick witted individual with a good head on his shoulders. Mike Detty was at the core of the Wide Receiver ATF gunrunning investigation.

The book is an incredible, true adventure story about the authors journey from bored, depressed, naive, patriot to seasoned and cynical confidential informant. Most of the larger gun deals were done out of Detty's own home. There he recorded the illicit gun buyers and conducted negotiations. He often took instructions from ATF agents on his cell phone in the middle of a gun sale. Mike Detty learned important lessons along the way, lessons that you can benefit from. The book is 264 pages long. I found it hard to put down.

Perhaps the most important lesson to be learned was that if you become involved in a government investigation, keep your own records! Document everything. Keep multiple copies and do not trust that you will be taken care of. Mike Detty took copious notes and meticulously documented everything. It shows. The book accomplishes the difficult task of telling real life events in detail without becoming boring or repetitive.

You will not find superheroes, or super villains. You will encounter people that you could find in your own life. I found many "There but for the grace of God, go I" moments in the book. I found it easy to relate to Mike.

A solid book by an experienced gun scribe. Very interesting 1st person insight on how the operation was conducted. Nothing earth shattering- the Gov't is corrupt, individuals in Govt bureaucracies are corrupt and interested only in advancing their careers, if you are a good cop or good citizen trying to do the right thing- they will turn on you if it threatens their careers or political agendas,

Detty is a very credible writer and this personal chronical of his interaction with careerists in the bureaucracy rings true to those who have encountered "the system." Guns Across the Boarder is entertaining and fast-paced from beginning to end-Detty's and one or more BATFE agents conclusions about the actual purpose of the gun-walker projects will not make the current ruling elite very happy. Througout, adding to the compelling nature of the narrative. Detty manages to find redeeming qualities in many of the gun runners and the federal investigators alike. Amazing Book. Amazing man.

I like this book because it was a fascinating acount written in first person. I found Detty credible and I am thankful he wrote it. It points out the risk of dealing with a federal agency where the players are totally motivated by a successful climb up the ladder all too often at the expense of people they lie to. If you want to read an account of Holder's Fast & Furious activities by someone who was where the rubber meets the road this might be for you. You may be surprised at the reason this operation was conducted by our government.
