Sometimes reinventing the wheel isnt all bad...,
This review is from: Guns N' Roses Tribute: Bring You to Your Knees (Audio CD)
Well i just picked up this CD after hearing the most precious blood cover of sweet child o' mine, and for the most part im thoroughly impressed. Many people often compare tribute bands to their orignals, this just doesnt make any sense to me, becuase who the hell cares about how close you can go to being someone else? Most of the songs on this CD are very different from their originals. After listening to my michelle anyone whos into hardcore will realize that dilligner covered it. However some of the songs are pretty crappy, but thats just my taste...

You simply can't go wrong with a compilation like this. Kudos to Law of Intertia for putting together an album of this calibur. A handful of the best bands from the punk, metal, and hardcore genres covering one of the greatest acts of our time. There is something for everyone on this cd. Both old and new GNR fans will be extremely happy. Whether you are into more punk acts like Death by Stereo or the more technical Dillinger Escape Plan, they are all excellent tracks. This is definitely a must have compilation for 2004. Whether you are purchasing to hear some new material from a current favorite or just want to reminisce a little, I highly suggest you pick this up.

This cd kicks ass. I love Guns N Roses, and I love all the bands on here, so what could be better than those bands playing Guns N Roses covers?Just buy the damn thing and see for yourself. My favorite tracks are Eighteen Visions' cover of Paradise City and Break The Silence's stunning rendition of Nighttrain.

When I was surfing the web one day I came across a preview for this comp. I was very excited to see it too! GNR done by all of the bands that I love? Sounded like a good combination to me. So i went out and bought this cd right away.. And falls nothing short of amazing! There's a little something for everyone on this one. Axl should be smiling because this does his music justice.

the most precious blood cover is probably the only worth while track on here, guns n' roses is great as are most of the bands on this record but the covers on here sound rushed and the album is a dissappointment. download the most precious blood song and be happy.

G&R in a totally new light,

So when those of you used to listen to GUNS N ROSES did you ever think there would be a time when they would be worthy of a tribute? The concept is sure to make a few of you feel a little older than you wanted to. So here we are years later with an odd tribute brought to you by Law of Inertia and Suburban Home Records. Many tributes in the past have failed miserably like the first KISS tribute (just plain horrific) and the Jimmi Hendrix tribute. He is probably still thrashing in his grave from that one. However, this particular tribute blurred the lines between maintaining the integrity of the original band and the covering artists need to inject their own flair into the songs. The bands who cut the tracks didn't do a disservice to G&R but they certainly infected the songs with their own, personal affects. At times, you might be confused about whether or not they were poking fun of G&R or if they are paying homage to them. You will note that the basic chords were used but they layered it with some healthy screams and pounding guitars. Sort of like G&R on heavy steroids. Bands that really bulked up the tunes were MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD'S version of "Sweet Child O Mine" and DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN'S rendition of "My Michelle." Apparently EVERY TIME I DIE took the opportunity to show us their gentle side with their acoustic adaptation of "I Used to Love Her." This wasn't the EVERY TIME I DIE we are accustomed to but mildly fun anyway. Other notable bands on the tribute were GOD FORBID, THE BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE and EIGHTEEN VISIONS. For anything but a serious mind f**k, pick up this CD.

The CD starts out great, with the intro to 'Welcome to the Jungle' possibly done better than the original. Put once those first 15 seconds go by, it's all garbage. It's entertaining in a completely irritating way. You can't even identify some of the songs (e.g. You're Crazy and My Michelle), which would be a good thing if they spun them correctly, but they're nothing worth noticing. Most of the rest of the songs are near-carbon-copies, but sound way worse, are done with much less skill and only rarely are any harder. The classic Estranged is done without guitar solos and a nasaly singer. The intro riff to Sweet Child, possibly the most recognizable guitar riff of all time, is plinked out on a cheap piano. And the real chance for a beautiful HC re-interpretation, a cover of 'Used to Love Her' keeps the all-acousticness, which just shows you how misled this album is. Great idea, pointless results.

I am really into the metal and hardcore scene, but this cd was just horrible. I have most all of these artist cd's, which are great, but with them tring to do the older style of rock incorporated into their new metal style just turned out sounding like crap. None of gnr's songs were meant to be full out screaming. I am currently re-selling this cd on ebay because I dont even want it.

Call this a tribute album ? This is just making GNR look like a joke. Theses bands are so talentless its not funny. Most songs are like death metal and if you ever get to hear "Sweet child O mine "you will want to beat up the guy who sung it cause he kills it big time.

Guns and Roses was an awesome band. With such CDs as Appetite for Destruction, you will have a hospital bill from the neck strain whilst you head bang. In my case, upon listening to Welcome to the Jungle yesterday, I flew down the highway doing 90. Thats not healthy for a 19 year old. (Luckily there were no cops around).I pretty much grew up with the band, and only now, am I getting back into them. Appetite is now an album constantly in rotation, and I plan to re-buy the Use your Illusion CDs. With such a great band... ...its a shame to see bands crap on them like this. The title is "Bring you to your Knees"...which must stand for "Bring you to your Knees crying because this is a disgrace to GnR". Hands down, this CD is HORRIBLE. I would give it 0 stars, if not for a few songs (which I will get into shortly). Hits like Welcome to the Jungle, the intro is sub-par. The rest of the song is sub-hell. They do NOT do the intro better than GnR, and when it get into the song, it sounds like really bad hardcore. The talentless hack just screams the lyrics. He doesn't even do the "sha-na-na-na" thing. Way to crap on the most classic GnR song. Even if this weren't a cover, this song would still suck. Another favorite GnR song is My Michelle. Crap on this CD. The intro isn't to bad. Then comes the verses. ****. complete ****. The band just jams on the chords required like no tomorrow, and the drummer hits random objects. A 5 year old could put together than this. Another horrible hardcore remix. Unearth, whom I have a CD from, covered "Its so Easy". The music isn't to bad...but the vocals completely drown out the music. The guy sounds horrible. When he hits the clean vocals (where it goes "Its so easy..." etc), it sounds pretty good. Then more screaming, which was a shame. This entire song was a shame, because it had potential, yet it was completely ruined by horrible vocals. Sweet Child of Mine? Not too shabby, but definitely not great. The good? Anything Goes. Its just decent. The intro is nice. Nightrain. I'm somewhat of a purist, and this song sounds similar to the original. It breathes new life into the classic. Its not, say, better than the original. It definitely can be a very nice alternative. November Rain. Its pretty decent. Its not slow like the original; it's heavier (thats the point of this CD I assume). The vocals, are decent. As you'd expect, its screaming, and most of it sounds good. Paradise City. Its alot heavier than the original. The intro is actually better then GnR's, and the rest of the song is a very nice adaption. The riff right before the verses just outright ROCKS. Out Ta Get Me. Holy crap. If there were one reason to buy the CD, its for this song. From top to bottom, inside out, its better than the original. By volumes. This is the first song I heard from this, and I was pretty blown away. The screaming fits alot better than Axl's clean vocals. The music is pretty **** faithful, yet upped a notch. Its heavier, better, and more rocking. They do GnR better then GnR can do GnR. Highlight of the album. Its really a shame. Why do such great covers have to be put on the same CD as this crap. The bad covers bring this CD so low, its not even worth the handful of good songs. The extreme ****tyness quality of the bad songs outweigh the good. Okay, maybe I'm mad because these bands defiled my most favorite GnR songs (Welcome to the Jungle, My Michelle), yet it goes way beyond that. There are some who like music like the talentless crapfests above in the "Band Songs" section. So be it, this CD is for you. Be like me and download the good songs and skip the crap. Crap really is an understatement, ya know... |
