Should have been a Vacuum Cleaner.,

This review is from: Gunship! (CD-ROM)
Since many aspects of this game ( ), I feel it missed it'scalling. I purchased this Game for 39.99 at a retail establishmentwith a free copy of Mech Commander Gold which made this a good deal, as a matter of fact it costs 39.99 everywhere but here. Aside from the cost issue, the game is a grave disaster, the physics and flight model are not at all realistic, the manual is limited in information, there are errors showing that not much research was done for example the pilot in the AH-64 as well as most tandem seat attack aircraft sits behind the gunner, the manual shows the pilot in the front (gunner/copilot) station. Symbology and TADS functioning is not even close to that of Janes or Martin Marietta specs. Gunner's station is practically non functional, while the gunner and targeting is poor and not at all helpful. The lack of configuration options for controls and playability make this a canned sim. The graphics are good, but but gameplay is tuned more towards the role of pop-up target rather than flight sim. It is challenging and has potential, but in no way is prepared to compete with any other modern helicopter simulator exept that of Team Alligator, which also should have been a vacuum cleaner. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, I do like the looks of the game and will try desperately to work around all the shortcomings to enjoy what limited playability I have. I really like Apache Havoc's functional weapons and flight system that I expected microprose to at least match if not improve upon. The Apache is an advanced aircraft that is insulted by the trimmed down interface and lack of weapons system interaction. You have to like it though... they tried. It might grow on you, but without a demo to show their stuff, microprose stands to receive negative blows. The game really needs a patch. The decision to purchase is up to you. Hard Core sim players will be disappointed. END

Is this a PC or Playstation?,

I have been very disappointed with this title. The "realistic" flight mode is a joke, you can do 140 knots while still on the ground.(I could go on ,but limited to 1000 words)There appear to be numerous bugs: from commands not working or no command options for needed tasics.(changing waypoints)Tech Support offers NO HELP! In fact tech support is nonexistant... The playability is no better than the Playstaion version, except for better graphics. I'm shocked this was released in its current condition. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY...ITS BAD!

Definetly Worth A Look!,

I agree with alot of the complaints about this game: the Waypoint System is pretty cumbersome, your wingmen obviously graduated the bottom of their flight school class and the helicopters available to fly are sometimes above the law of physics. However, those complaints aside, this game is fun! The graphics are stunning - flying 100 knots barely above the trees is truly a stunning experience. Fly low enough and you can hear the leaves and branches slapping against your fuselage! The rockets and missle are impressive looking as they fly off your rails. You can damage a vehicle and watch it limp towards a hill or try and swivel is smoking turrent as you move in for a kill with a load of 30mm. Infantry will ditch their vehicles and run for the cover of the trees. If you loose them, watch out! Fly over that patch of forest where they are hiding and you'll be eating a SAM! I could fly reasonable well after a couple of hours. You can adjust the game to any experience level and can suit the game to any flying style you choose. I don't want to fly a "real helicopter". I want something in the middle - a game that is fun and a sim that is realistic but forgiving. Anyone who complains about the lacks of realism should go out and buy Flight Simulator 2000. Gunship is not perfect. But is fun and graphically stunning. I would definetly reccomend buying this game. (I haven't had a chance to play online with it yet....I'll check back with that review later!)
