"And if Acklund plays us both for fools?" Hank asked."Then I'll make him wish he was never born.",

This review is from: The Gunsmith 324: Ball and Chain (Gunsmith, The) (Mass Market Paperback)
Clint Adams is just about ready to get on the trail again;when he agrees to tale a parcel to someone in Hinterland, just across the border in Oregon. Not the kind of job Clint usually takes on;but since he was headed that way anyway, and he was offered a nice little sum of money that could be used to celebrate with,he agreed to do it.
All the parcel was ,was a sentimental frame of flowers for a young lady. Some owlhoots got wind of it and decided to ambush Clint, thinking it was something valuable that they could steal and sell. Things turn out pretty nasty in little old Hinterland;with Clint caught in the middle of three inept brothers who are trying to become outlaws. They are dangerous, but about as talented as The Three Stooges. The people who Clint is delivering the parcel are interesting, with an old man who distrusts everyone including his coming of age daughter. Through no fault of his own ,Adams ends up in the crosshairs of the daughter's father,Hank, and just about meets his doom. However,as is often the case in situations like this, things rapidely change and the story takes off in a very different direction. It's not a typical Old West Western;but still a good ,entertaining read.
