Nice Action Anime,

This anime OVA uses characters from the manga of the same name - Gunsmith Cats. This is not based on any existing GSC story. Completely original story and a few new characters. Rally and Minnie May are bounty hunters in Chicago who are blackmailed into helping the ATF. It turns out the girls don't have a license to sell some of the weapons they have in their gun shop plus there's May's handling of explosives. The ATF wants some help in getting a gun smuggler. This leads to a Russian assassin being hired to kill Rally. Although I like this title, it doesn't seem as strong as the manga. There isn't the same character or story development. The humor is good though. You don't have to read the manga to enjoy this, but I do feel the manga has better plots. It's a little tame for a typical GSC story. The manga tends to be more realistic. Rally may pull off incredible stunts in the manga, but it's all believable or at least possible with some luck. Here in the anime, I have problems with the end of the second episode when Minnie May is holding onto Rally's speeding car. When Rally stops after driving at high speeds, May should not have been able to hold on - plus she has no cuts from the broken glass. The rest of the show is OK, and I admit I may just be picky about this. Hey, it's entertainment. How many action movies are truly believable? Trivia Notes: Look at the license plate of the truck at the begining of the second episode - a little Star Trek reference. The plate number is NCC 1701. Also, Amanda Winn Lee who provides the voice for Rally for the dub also does the voice for soft-spoken Rei in Evangelion and Mumiji in Blue Seed.

GSC is a great vid with a really addictive theme-song and good animation. A movie you could sit down and watch any time of the year. You'll enjoy the characters for their quirks even though some of the basic concepts have been done, they're hilarious here. I saw this video and fell in love at once! Highly recommended for anyone who loves a half-serious, half-joking violent anime flick!

This was a great video. It had everything, guns, girls, action, and just plain fun. Don't take that "Mature Audience" thingon the side serious because the only thing that would make this higher then a low rating is the violence and a couple of shots of people in their underwear. This also seems a tad bit to American to be Japanesse made Anime. I actually think this is sort of an American made anime (if there is such a thing.) Well other wise it was great.

Girls, guns, cars, bombs, and bounty hunter action abound.,

This review is from: Gunsmith Cats Special [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the dubbed english version of all three episodes of the gunsmith cats videos which are based on the Manga comics of the same name. They chronicle the exploits of Rally Vincent, a young, vixen-esque Chicago gun store owner/arms expert whose hobby is bounty hunting. She is aided by her partner Minnie May Hopkins, a child/waif whose bliss is in explosives as a complement to Rally's firearms fixation. Minnie's also got twice the libido to Rally's apparent total lack of interest/understanding in the ways of love. Lots of action, consisent plot development, and definite adult leanings. Progressively more graphically violent from episode 1 to episode 3. Rally goes after gunrunners, bailjumpers, and female ex-KGB assasin with some occasional add'l assistance of a whiny affeminate DEA guy. Liked the artwork lots. Didn't care much for occasional girlish gigglefest. Liked theme music and opening art. Could this be the Japanime equivalent of a female Magnum P I ? Yup. Worth a look? Yup.

Kids like this, too. It is funny and sad. The assain keeps attaking them but,I like this series. It is diffrent then the other anime I see. And I never read the manga. I got it at Hollyowood video for secondhand. It is tottaly awesome. My favorite thing about this is funnyness. Minnie May is so active. Mostly boys like this but not me. I am a girl and I stil am not offended by the blood, guns, and bombs. It's like an ordinary day for our heroins Minnie May and Rally. It is kawaii(cute),too. So if you like stuff like this go to Ebay or here and other bvecause I don't think they sell this anymore.

Girls, Guns, Grenades...,

Rally Vincent is your typical Bounty Hunter. Minnie May is your typical "lolita-ish" Explosives Fanatic. Put those two together, and any bounty you put in front of these two will result in some mayhem some Bounty Hunters would dream about. The duo comprise the team of "Gunsmith Cats," a somewhat serious action drama centering around the exploits of this duo. For starters, Rally and Minnie May capture a Bounty, only to find out their Bounty is involved in some serious matters involving an ATF Agent, a Federal Investigation over Arms Smuggling, and a certain figure in power. When their denied their bounty, their blackmailed (Rally faces some Gun Violations, Minnie May a whole host of Explosives Violations) by our intrepid ATF Agent, who tries his darndest to keep tabs on the duo. Near the end of Episode 1, Rally has to make a de-facto deal with her "former" bounty, who also puts Rally into the difficult Position of shooting the ATF Agent. What culminates next is something to see... The Second Episode introduces a former KGB Assasin sent to deal with Rally and Minnie May. With some "help" from their now slain bounty, they start to uncover the arms smuggling ring, but this puts Minnie May (and shows-off the really neat Shelby GT500 Cobra in action...Animation-wise...) on a Car-Chase Scence Hollywood would never match anytime soon... The Third Episode has the Girls getting an Award...and the Assasin Seeking Revenge!! What's the real shocker is how everything wraps up into a storyline you never expected. And just when you think everythings all wrapped up nice and neat... As for the series, what can I say? A Lolita-ish character, Women who seem to destroy everything in sight, the Shelby GT500, Explosives, Political Intrigue, and some surprises you never thought possible...excluding nudity, what more could you ask for? This is one perfect tape to see...if only not to be surprised at every turn, but also to be amazed at how much painstaking detail went into the movie (The ATF and the Shelby GT500 were studiously studied for the movie, and not hackmead like Hollywood...you know everything is real and all "correct.")

Gunsmith Cats: Bulletproof,

Finally the three parts of Kenichi Sonda's Gunsmith Cats on one tape. This OAV based on the mannga of the came name about Chicago bounty hunter and gunsmith Rally Vincent and her partner Minnie May Hopkins. With the screenplay and character design by Sononda himself, this has to be my favorite anime in my collection. The story begins when the ATF request that Rally help out to bust a gun runner and this is only the begining of there worries. Next think they know there is an Ex-KGB agent after them. With a great soundtrack and nicely animated this is an all round wonderful tape.

This ninety-minute video is one of the best ever put out by A.D.V. films. The animation is a real plus it is very fast and colorful but smooth. Sonoda Kenichi's character designs are (as usaul) bright and colorful. The opening theme is another highlight it is done very well in an '80s cop-show style. But in my opinion the main highlight was the gun fights especialy the one in the warehouse. But beware, this video can be very violent at times.

Excellent dubbing, good animation, and action scenes John Woo would envy. Some characters are a little pointless to the story, but let's face it: who watches Gunsmith Cats for the plot? Three episodes on one tape is a great deal. If only the behind-the-scenes vignette from the first episode had been included, this would get five stars.

Bullet Proof brings Sonada's classic to the english audience,

For some time, this great piece of film was only on Japanese Laser Disc and VHS. Now, this english dubb/adaption brings this great series to all of us lowly english otakus ^_~The voice actors fitted nicely to each character, a Gunsmith Cats manga fan like myself was impressed with the adaptions. Though I must admitt, ATF Agent Collins sounds a little too emphatic when desperate or in a jam. The art work was great, lots of detail in the fire arms and MOST of the physics of the viechles and trajectories of the weapons are accurate. The plot was the usual Gunsmith Cats type: Rally gets in too deep but comes out strong, with fire fights, reckless driving, and interventions from allies in between. Sonada's familiar stylings of the 1970 police genre (THe French Connection, The Blues Brothers) is not as evident in this video as the manga. The video was great, though I must say I am VERY dissapointed the hard driving, indestructable road dog Bean Bandit did not make a cameo appearance in the video: as he does often in the manga. That is all. |
