5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best books on this subject
I agree with other reviews that this book is a bit outdated looking at subjects like modern semi- and full-automatics. But this book is very well written indeed and a must have without a doubt for every learning and experienced gunsmith and or smaal arms designer. I have a lot of books on this subjects and this one one of the very best on my shelf. Absolutely advisable!

2.0 out of 5 stars Basic information a bit dated
A lot of information on 1917 enfield. This book has been around a while the first printing was in the 60s. There has been some up dating but it needs a major over haul. All of the pictures are from the 50s and 60s of shops that are not there anymore and of people that have long sense died. Of course some of the basics don't change if you are looking for information on...

One of America's best gunsmiths, Mr Dunlap covers trouble shooting and repairs for many firearms as well as custom building. This book is a wealth of technical information. I thoroughly enjoy his witty prowse and common sense approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Gunsmithing: The complete sourcebook of firearms design, construction, alteration, and restoration for amateur and professional gunsmiths (Hardcover)
This is a must have book for any Gunsmith. It is written by a Gunsmith for Gunsmiths. Reading this book was almost as good as the first year of Gunsmithing school. I have many Gunsmithing books I reference, but this one is the best of the best for metal work.

I found this book to be full of valuable information. It covers timeless topics in the gun world. While written some time ago, the information still pertains to today's firearms.

My Dad and I shot with Roy in my preteen years. I was impressed with him as a shooter then, and as a gunsmith now. Someone mentioned "out of date" photos and dead authors. This issues are NOT relevant, as the knowledge encompassed in the book are not dependent on photos......

This book is a necessity in the library of any good riflesmith.

This review is from: Gunsmithing: The complete sourcebook of firearms design, construction, alteration, and restoration for amateur and professional gunsmiths (Hardcover)
This book is okay. I bought it after buying several others and it has added to my knowledge about some guns and techniques. Not a bad book at all but it could use some better and more frequent illustrations in my book.

The book is a little outdated for the times and requires an extensive knowledge of the terminology used in the field to understand what the author is talking about. This book is not a good choice for beginner gunsmiths, but holds a lot of value to intermediate gunsmiths who want to broaden their skill set.
